small world 1998 - 1999March 1998
Greetings to you, my friends! Occasionally some data will come my way, or a fresh approach to a chart will suggest itself, or an idea need airing. Every so often I'll use this little bulletin to post them to you to explore or ignore as you please, and I promise to keep it short _ none of us wants to wade through sheaves of uninvited literature when there are more pressing reasons for checking our mail! If you know anyone else who might appreciate Small World, let me know at the email address above, or indeed forward it to them; likewise, if you don't want to receive it do tell me, and I'll take your name off my list. Its name reflects my inordinate interest in the minutiae of astrology, particularly the Dwads and the burgeoning thousands of named asteroids! I wanted to use "Minutiae" in the email address _ but there's another crackpot like me out there... so I worked fruitlessly through the short_list till there remained just one, the date of the Nativity of Jesus, the Seventh day of the 5th month when the Dragon's Head was exactly at Zero Aries. Before committing this to Gaia's electronic synapses, natal 5th house stellium kicked in and invented a new game.... JUST FOR A BIT OF FUN... Let's do the numerology, I thought; and then, Why not give it a different spin? Instead of just adding the numbers of the letters, try multiplying them, removing multiples of 360 to get a final zodiac degree, and then see if there's any significance. Also, treat the number row as a single multi_digit figure, reducing it the same way. And a third variant is to keep dividing the figure by 360 until a zodiac degree is left. I must say the results were intriguing! The above address by various means yielded the degrees of Jesus' Nativity Star (Aldebaran) and Sun/DESC all in mid_Taurus, his Taurus Mercury, and the degree opposite his Gemini Moon/Isis. Our Lady's Nativity treated the same way gave her Leo Sun/Mary conjunction, the Scorpio ASC shared by both of them (Sabian Symbol "a woman father of her own child"), plus Jesus' Gemini Moon and Venus _ all within a degree. "GOD" is 764, which minus 2x360 becomes 44, the degree of Jesus' Sun. "SUN" is 135, the centre of the Sun's own sign. "Son" in 15 Virgo is opposite "Moon" in 15 Pisces; "Lune" is Cancer 25, its dwad 0 Taurus, linking the Moon's rulership with its exaltation. Playing with personal names was absolutely fascinating _ and the bonus came at bedtime and the routine invocation of Hypnos, when it beat sheep_counting at every hurdle. Great fun for obsessives. Try it! AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY ... SERIOUS Regarding data: back in 1987 when I put Torvill and Dean in the Draco book I had their permission in a personal letter from Jayne. The data for Oprah Winfrey which she sent me on request privately is now public domain. Now however I find myself in possession of a celebrity birth_time which is sought by a number of friends, and I am in a dilemma. I would greatly appreciate your comments on this. The date, place and time of birth were all given to me personally by the mother of the person concerned while I was a guest under their roof . The mother has since died. I was there as part of an entertainment, but also gave a reading (unpaid) to the celebrity's partner. Subsequently I mailed a reading to the person concerned, which was unacknowledged. So far, for over ten years, I have kept this data in confidence. What are your views? Would you continue to respect the privacy of this information, or would you share it with the astrological community? DATA Saga Magazine ran an article in their January issue about the professional weather prophet, Richard Piers Corbyn - he who has until recently been extremely secretive about the methods he uses for lucrative meteorological prediction. I wonder how close he comes to astrology? No birth time of course, but we do have a date - "I was born on March 10th 1947, (in Wiltshire) during a terrible winter with awful snow. I arrived on the day of the thaw. My father told me about it and I've checked the records. The west of England had gales, heavy rain and floods and, by coincidence, there was the Great Sunspot of 1947 on the sun!" Weather-man Bill Giles was in the spotlight on a recent "This is your Life" - born William George Giles on 18th November 1939 in Dartmouth. If you missed the birthdata for the septuplets born last year, it was published all over the front page of USA TODAY - 19th November 1997 in Des Moines Methodist Medical Center, Iowa to Bobbi and Kenny McCaughey. The births, by Caesarian section, began at 12h48 pm. They are Kenneth Robert, Alexis May, Natalie Sue, Kelsey Ann, Brandon James , Nathaniel Roy and Joel Steven. That's it for now - enjoy! Cheerio, folks! PamC March 14th 1998 Hallo again! OK, you've all seen the headlines! Ignore asteroids at your peril! By this new potential Doomsday some of us will - if still around - be geriatric and may not care less, but if you really want to scare the pants off yourselves check out the horrible T-square with Sun-Earth involving Pluto, Saturn/Chiron, Sidereal Mars, and a closing (therefore active) Helio Mars. In Northern latitudes Pluto culminates as Uranus rises around 6 to 6h30 pm. It is at its worst on October 30th 2028, echoing interestingly the configurations of 11th August 1999 and even 4th May 2000 (the Solar Return of Jesus) when the Sidereal Mars, Pluto and Chiron align with the Taurus eclipse stellium. NB - "early 2000" is when the asteroid will make "a close pass"... You may also like to take a look at the Sun-Moon square of August 4th 1999 - this is another dramatic pattern which deserves our attention. It has had mine for years, as I had a clear dream donkeys ages ago in which the phrase came, "Gunboat Maryland, 4th of August". Burrowing in war books and phone calls to Janes' Fighting Ships failed to turn up any such vessel, but in 1995 I was shown ( do you want the story?) that August 4th was most certainly the birthday of Mary, mother of Jesus, in 24 BC at Nazareth, 10h52 GMT, nearly the same angles as Jesus (born 7th May 5BC, 16h23 GMT, Bethlehem) with asteroid Mary exactly conjunct her Leo Sun, helio Maria exactly conjunct Earth; and this 1999 pattern falls on her birthday, configuring her chart and that of Jesus. When you play the numbers game with "Gunboat Maryland" (vide last bulletin) it comes up with 4 Taurus - the degree of the Moon-Jupiter conjunction that day before the exact Quarter. Coincidence? Warning? As ever, we wait and see! I can't find my Comet Halley ephemeris, by the way - anyone out there with a copy they could offer me? I have a Useful Tip for those of you with Solar Fire 4 and haven't yet discovered this: you can actually save Progressed and Converse charts if you select one, then choose Chart, Locality, and re-enter the chart's own coordinates! Not only does this save the chart for future fiddling, but gives you the exact reference date and time for the progression. Many thanks to those of you who offered counsel on the privacy of celebrity data; I'm giving it a lot of thought. Finally (for MediaWatch!) the Esther Rantzen programme is going to be repeated this coming Wednesday afternoon, March 18th, on BBC2; and the weirdest thing - someone called Geraldine Douge has apparently interviewed yours truly on an Australian Broadcast Commission TV programme, "Compass" - anyone out there know by what miracle of IT this occurred, and why no-one at either ABC or BBC thought to let us know? Many thanks to the new friend who emailed me with the news! (You will have had my message by now, I hope.) "They don't make diamonds as big as bricks" says my sage Saggy husband, and The Best Things In Life Are Free. Off goes another small but hopefully useful missive to you all - partly as a Thank-you to all those other astrologers who share so much, and particularly to my late, dear old friend Al H. Morrison of New York whose generosity was unequalled. More anon. God Bless! Pam March 29th 1998 "Nothing is so beautiful as Spring - When weeds in wheels shoot long and lovely and lush; Thrush's eggs look little low heavens, and thrush Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring The ear, it strikes like lightnings to hear him sing; The glassy peartree leaves and blooms, they brush The descending blue; that blue is all in a rush With richness; the racing lambs too have fair their fling." I love this poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins! You should see the Wordsworthian host of golden daffodils, too, along the main A2 by the Fire station at Faversham (of which, more later on!) - so glorious that at dusk there is still sunshine all around there. In the bookshop formerly known as Phoenix, I came upon the biography of the Rev. Wilbert Vere Awdry, he who created Thomas the Tank Engine, Henry, Edward and Gordon the other steam-engines, and the Fat Controller. His baby book, conserved by his family, gives us full and exact birth data: born at exactly 5h22 pm on June 15th 1911 at Romsey in Hampshire, England. He died in 1994 on 27th October. Most satisfyingly, asteroids Edward and Henry are conjunct his Mercury (4ge15) within a degree, and Thomas is 5 deg from opposition at 29sc16...but this is right opposite Awdry's Sidereal Sun in Taurus, and in the helio chart Edward is found at 25ta31, Henry at 27ta55! Sidereal Pluto links with Tropical Mercury from 3ge50, and the Sidereal Desc picks up Draconic Mercury. Sidereal Mercury in mid-Taurus joins an impressive line-up of Draconic Sun in Jesus' own Trop/Draconic Sun-degree, 14 Taurus, tropical Saturn/N.Node, and the helio Saturn/Jupiter opposition from mid-Taurus to Scorpio. Quite apart from a typical clergyman's pattern, I reckon we've found the Fat Controller! Notice the strength of the Sidereal again in a man famous for his writing, a public figure both in this respect and as a minister of the Church. There is more fun to be had with Mercury: the pivotal helio has it in steamy Pisces, T-squared with Earth in the Galactic Centre area and the late Gemini Pluto; helio Mercury/Mars=tropical MC; dwad geo Mercury breathes in Neptune's ear in 21 Cancer, and to get up yet more steam the dwad Sun is in 11 Pisces with Chiron and the IC. The Fat Controller is securely identified again in dwad geo Saturn conjunct Jupiter! We nearly lost Faversham last weekend. Its old name was Feversham or Feuersham, referring either to its unhealthy air(!) or maybe to its long-term and very hazardous industry, the manufacture of gunpowder. It was incorporated with Moon con Jupiter in Aries semisquare a rising Uranus ... So it had a fire. If the Fire services hadn't arrived so quickly at the old tea-rooms on the Market-place, the whole centre could have gone up. My town was born on June 4th 1252 at 0h00 LMT, and on March 22nd unfortunately its daily converse MC stood face to face with radix Mars and the progressed nodes at the same time as daily progressed Asc squared p. Mars and DPMc squared a p. Mercury-Saturn opposition. Asteroid Feuerbach, just past the Sun, was heading into Faversham's Aries S. Node and its sidereal position on the town's Pisces (Brewing) Ascendant! The blaze is said to have started in a build-up of lint in a tumble-dryer "just before 5 pm"; in any event, at 16h45 the god of fire, sidereal Agnia, was on the tropical IC and closing on the town's DPAsc as p. Mars rose in 16/17 Virgo, and then at 16h57 Fireman literally arrived on the Asc in 19 Virgo with transiting Sidereal Mars on the Desc. Two days later, the DconvMC joined Jupiter, DconvAsc met Mercury, and the whole drama was splashed over the local paper's front page in record time! On April 19th in Turin Cathedral the Holy Shroud goes on public display from 7h00 am, after an initial unveiling and private Church ceremonies the previous day. Writer and researcher Ian Wilson who once doubted its authenticity is publishing a new book on April 13th completely reversing those earlier conclusions. I've done a lot of staring at Shroud data (times of key photographs, TV and radio programmes, etc), using asteroids to establish the identity of the image on the cloth. Every time, the person of Jesus the Martyred God has been described in these tiny "words" tagged to the Angles and Lights. This time for public display is some of the best data we've had; and the chart is unequivocal. The interplay of asteroids and the Dwad, always so descriptive, affirms the Shroud as that of the crucified Jesus. Asc 6 Taurus is joined by dwad Yeshuhua in 9 Taurus; dwad Asc and radix Christa are conjunct in 12 Cancer (opposite the previous day's Moon); Yeshuhua radix at 8 Aquarius is on the dwad IC in 9; and the Yeshuhua/Christa midpoint lies between the 12th-house Aries Sun and Saturn (the light-image of the mortal body.) I am trying to find out when the ceremonies begin on the 18th. I must stop now before risking overload! You must tell me if ever you find the bulletin too long; I'll be as concise as I can, as promised. Happy Spring, everybody! God Bless, Pam ............................................................................................................ May 5th 1998 Happy 2002, everyone! No, I haven't gone mental, it's less than 24 hours since the 2002nd Solar Return for Jesus' Nativity of May 7th 5 BC - with His asteroid, Yeshuhua, at 10 aq 53 closing on Uranus and square to the Sun/Mars. Asteroid Signe was at the Return IC ... does He have a surprise in store, one wonders? The nation is in mourning. I am still in shock. Now what is she on about, you ask? Did we miss the news, overlook a crucial headline? No - but you forgot to switch on for the last two episodes of Ballykissangel over the Bank Holiday weekend. I give this to you, then, as the epitome of Astrology as Idea: the pattern at the illusory death of the fictitious publican Assumpta Fitzgerald, and tragic loss to the priest, Father Peter, who has just renounced All for her, is more vivid than many you will find gracing the skies during real, historic events. Five minutes before, the two are beside a lake coming to terms with the reality of their relationship and rethinking their future; now the lights in the bar flicker out, Assumpta goes again down into her cellar to fiddle with the fuses, there is an ominous crack, silence, then horror and anguish as Peter and her other friends find her electrocuted, with no breath, no pulse, no response to resuscitation. Gone. My eyes were first opened some years ago when the god Apollo strolled onto the screen in Star Trek just as asteroid Apollo was poised on the London horizon; prepare for a bigger shock - this latest fictional tragedy took place at sunset as a Grand Cross of Sun/Mars in Taurus, Moon Leo, Chiron in Scorpio and the Aquarian Uranus configured the ASC/Desc and the Moon's Nodes were conjoined by the MC/IC. That alone portrays the sudden trauma of pain and separation; but just look what happens when we go interdimensional with our usual four-ring wheel of Tropical, Draconic, Sidereal, Heliocentric. (If you set one up for 3rd May 1998, 20h45 BST, London, you will see more clearly the asteroid positions I'm about to describe.) Elektra is setting, lined up with sidereal Atropos (death), draconic Saturn and a rising helio Nemesis - plus the dwad tropical (gtd) position of Keller (cellar), all square Karma and Moira (fate) in Aquarius with Uranus. Hybris is conjunct the Sun. Draconic Uranus is on the MC opposite draco Moon, Kegler and Paine in the trop. South Node at the IC and sidereal Venus. These last are all squared in turn in Gemini/Sagittarius by the draconic Chiron Asc, Desc Sun/Mars, picking up tropical and helio Pluto _ PLUS trop. Atropos in Gemini with Amor, Devota, Martir, Bacchus (the publican) and Abbe ("Father"), opposite the Sagittarius alignment of trop. Utopia and Destinn with Sidereal Roma, Requiem and helio Peter. Father Peter was forced by his superior Fr. MacAnally to give the non_religious Assumpta the Roman Catholic Last Rites. It had been a utopian dream; destiny did not permit the marriage of the priest and the would-be divorcee. The Sidereal phase of the Grand Cross is in late Cardinals; now we have a Cancer Moon opposite Uranus and helio Venus ( a moody, difficult, emotional woman ) squared by draconic Venus on the sidereal Asc with helio Keller and trop. McNally, and draconic Keller setting with Sun, Mars and Elektra. The sidereal MC/N.Node aligns with the tropical Moon in Leo opposite S.Node, IC and trop/helio Uranus. For good measure sidereal Saturn is close to tropical Venus. And there's not much else! The story is completely told here. Five minutes earlier sidereal Mars and draconic Venus were lined up on the sidereal Asc/Desc as the lovers talked and wept and touched by the side of the lake. Then all this. You tell me - what actually is reality? We are taught "thoughts are things"; perhaps the truth is that we as much as our creations are simply materialised Ideas. Hamlet asked, "What's Hecuba to him, or he to Hecuba, that he should weep for her?" They are as real as we are. The power of the sidereal zodiac in this pattern is awe-inspiring, when you remember that it ties the event to the collective life, on a stellar stage. Maybe here it simply pictures the national involvement with the story - yet so dramatic is this depiction, it would seem to carry a far deeper meaning for us all than an epehemeral tale. There are archetypes at work here, bearing eternal truths. For those of us who can read the heavens' language, it suggests a real warning to those who believe they can switch commitments with impunity. The presence of Incidentia with Amun (God) on the tropical Desc, Yeshuhua with Uranus opposite Godel and the Moon, gtd Yeshuhua on the draconic Asc with Koranna also! and Godart at the IC, all imply that an act of God can intervene to keep spiritual promises unbroken, destinies on an appointed course. Those who study myths know well that the ancient tales are truthful, even though they have no roots in material fact at all. In Ballykissangel I think we may be seeing - as in Star Trek, Star Wars, X-Files and numerous other cult media classics - a living modern mythology. ............................................................................................................ Now it is May 6th - a birthday shared by Our Leader, one very close friend recently in holy orders, and Roy who runs our Post Office and has charge of the keys to the Parish Church. Tomorrow is Jesus' birthday (by equinoctial precession 3 days adrift from the solar return) and also that of Richard who directs us all at Canterbury Choral Society, giving us the joy of singing great Masses and Requiems at the heart of the Cathedral, at the centre of English Christian life since Augustine. People involved with Christ relate to His chart. I can show you hundreds. But the news today is ominous - mudslides in the area of Naples. A few days ago I more or less finished a study of the eruptions of Vesuvius post-1500, with asteroids. For many of these explosions I had no exact time, but for recent events the progressed and daily progressed charts of Italy (thanks to Nick Campion for World Horoscopes) told most of the story. Planetary patterns were important - but critical timing is given by the appointment diary of the asteroids. There is Vulcano, Vulkaneifel, Richter and Poseidon (for quakes), Feuerbach (a stream of fire), Ashbrook (pyroclastic ash-flow), Asher, Rockefellia for rock-fall, also Stone, Agnia (god of fire), Burns, Caldeira (crater), Summa (summit), Siva and Kaali for destruction, Ultrajectum (for material flung far out), Celsius and Fahrenheit, Flammario, Montana. Then there are Mounts Pele (the goddess of volcanos), Merapi and Helenos; and Pompeia, Herculina, Napolitania and Italia, plus others that are specific to other countries and their eruptions. There isn't space here to go into detail of the preliminary study, but the patterns for both the Kingdom and the Republic of Italy for this autumn, 1998, look very risky indeed. For simplicity I'll now abandon bold type for the asteroids, since you now know what they are. On the Kingdom's solar return of March 17th, Vulcano was conjunct Moon in Scorpio in 8th square a 12th-house Uranus and quincunx Mars. Vulkaneifel was square Sun. The Kingdom was 'born' with Atropos (death) setting in 3 Gemini square Saturn in 4 Virgo. This year the annual progressed Asc reaches 3 Gemini opposite p. dwad Uranus, joined by the p. Moon this month and squared by p.dwad Pluto in 5 Virgo. The Moon, with T. Pluto opposite, then moves to the radix alignment of Uranus, Richter and dwad Sun in Gemini with Agnia and Kaali conjunct in Sagittarius. Progressed Vulcano and Saturn in 8 Virgo square this horrible line-up. Meanwhile, the p.Sun in 8 Leo, with p. IC close behind, is square radix Pluto, semi_sextile p. Saturn, and being hit by T. Uranus in a line-up with radix Italia and dwads Pele, Feuerbach, Pluto. Progressed Mars in Leo has reached opposition with radix Napolitania/Montana in Aquarius and now presses on Jupiter/dwad Uranus radix square its own radix position in Taurus. P. Montana approaches the IC, Mercury, Rockefellia and Ashbrook (trine r. Feuerbach) to be caught in semisquare with T. Uranus and the progressed Sun/IC pattern. The Republic has Flood, Pele and Vulcano conjoined on the Kingdom's MC opp. Sun, Mercury, etc. Its p.Mars has arrived at Pele. Its p. Sun is in the same degree of 8 Leo (q.v.) with p. Richter and Requiem, and p.dwad Vulkaneifel, conjunct the radix Pluto and dwad South Node of the Moon. Opposite is radix Napolitania.... and p. Pluto is 3' only from opposition to r. Feuerbach. The p. draconic IC has caught up with p. Feuerbach and dwad Uranus square the radix Moon in Scorpio and p. Ultrajectum opp. p. Summa. By annual progression (as compared with Daily angles) the Asc in 29 Sagittarius is tightly conjoined with Pompeia opp. p.dwad Summa and Agnia, all square radix Montana. P.dwad Pluto is heading for the p. South Node already occupied by p.Herculina. Around the radix Asc in 17 Scorpio is a collection of p.dwads _ Sun, Asc, Kaali, Pele, Pompeia - and p.Richter. The p.dwad Sun moves a degree a month like the p. Moon, and will pick up all these in turn over the autumn of 1998. In October the p.Moon conjoins Neptune after meeting p. Pele in August (Augusta radix is square Mars); in the other eruption charts Moon/Neptune clashes often accompanied ash-clouds and pyroclastic flows. By October again, T. Chiron will be on the p.MC square p.Caldeira and p.Napolitania, radix Saturn, and nearly square p. Ashbrook. As this is written, T. Saturn has already moved over the p.IC, and returns to connect it with r. and p.Saturn between September and December this year. The T. Moon's Nodes cross the Republic's meridian ( S.Node with p.dwad Poseidon at the vulnerable IC) in November as T. draconic Mars hits the MC and p.dwad Sun gets to p.dwad Pele. The most dangerous-looking time would be around Full Moon on 4th November, which is exact about 25 minutes before sunrise at Naples and finds Uranus in close square to the horizon. 20 minutes earlier still (at around 6h30 in the morning) Uranus opposite those two progressed Suns is at the IC. Feuerbach will be setting at that full moon, not yet square to Uranus. Transiting Mars will be on the Republic's daily IC, radix Neptune on that of the Kingdom, with the daily Desc conjunct p.Moon. A couple of days before, it will have hit p.Uranus and T. Pluto square p. Vulcano. This will be a test of two things - the usefulness of asteroid selection in assessment of risk, and more crucially my own ability to display and understand the information. I am here sticking my neck out for long-overdue activity in Vesuvius over the autumn of '98, with a possible cataclysmic eruption of magma and ash in early November, causing widespread destruction. If I'm wrong, (Yes! I was!) then it's back to the drawing-board, and profound apologies for causing unnecessary concern. If I'm right, and people are watchful, then it might save some lives. Dare one say, 'better safe than sorry'? ............................................................................................................ Don't forget to do your bit, however small, toward fund_raising for the purchase of William Lilly's cottage at Diseworth near Nottingham. Several of us are holding seminars, besides which there could be coffee mornings, sales, readings, cycle rides, walks... you will have your own ideas, probably more imaginative than mine! God Bless, Pam ............................................................................................................ A SPECIAL BULLETIN May 13th 1998 Dear Friends, Sad news reaches the astrological community. Yesterday I received the following letter from Mrs. Diana Mayo: "Dear Mr. & Mrs. Crane, It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the passing of my husband Jeffrey Charles Mayo. He fought a long and courageous battle against cancer but finally succumbed on the morning of Friday, 17 April 1998." It is a personal loss for me, as Jeff was my first formal teacher when I signed up to the Faculty Certificate course way back in 1969, and took me right through to my Diploma. He left the Faculty in 1973 to set up the Mayo School of Astrology and invited me to join him as one of his first tutors. He was a wonderful man to work with, always kind, always patient, generous with his friendship, ideas and attention. The School has continued to flourish since Jeff's retirement from active astrological tuition, under the guidance of Jackie Hudson. Jeff was born at 8am on October 7th 1921 in London. During WW2 he served with the Royal Engineers. Here he was involved in map-making - an interest and skill that later took an interesting turn, and never left him! He went on to active service in Normandy and Germany, then with peacetime, to farming with his brother in Devon. They were among the first to re_introduce organic husbandry. He will always be remembered for his contribution as Head Tutor and Principal of the Faculty of Astrological Studies, the founding of his own school, and the excellent series of books he wrote: the famous "Teach Yourself Astrology", "How to Read the Ephemeris", "How to cast a Natal Chart", "The Astrologer's Astronomical Handbook", "The Planets and Human Behaviour", and in 1995 "Astrology, a Key to Personality". "Teach Yourself.." has never been out of print. Many of us were weaned on these books; they still have few rivals for clarity and authority. I wish he had followed through his more private passion for weather prediction! When I visited him, he showed me drawers full of weather data which must contain much of interest and value. Jeff wasn't an indoors man. He loved to be out in the air, loved the countryside, the wilderness, the wildlife all around him; needed to be near the sea, to have hills to wander, mysteries to explore. After a long period close to Morecambe Bay, it was perhaps inevitable that he returned at length to North Devon. He was profoundly happy in his last earthly home at Berrynarbor with Diana; despite the illness which has now taken him from us, his final years were greatly blessed. He left us as Uranus came to his IC opposite his converse Neptune, t. Neptune squared his Ascendant, and the progressed Moon closed on Sun and p.N.Node in Libra. The eclipses had fallen across the converse Asc/Desc, Uranus and converse Moon, with t.Pluto in square. A GIFT AT HIS PASSING But by another measure I have in front of me three further charts, each with the Sun in the Moon's south Node and Saturn either on or exactly square the horizon. Each describes the giving-up of a life, and separation from others. In two cases, where Chiron is mapped it is with the north Node opposite the Sun, mark of both the teacher and the sufferer. The dates of these charts are far apart - 26th September 1968 at 8h08, 17th October 1874 at 07h52, and 9th December 1797 at 18h34. You may not have seen anything like this; it may be a fresh discovery. If it is, it is entirely due to the inspiration of Theo Landscheidt in the AA Journal that arrived this week, but I dedicate it to Jeff, whose passing has given this measure its first test. It is the Golden Section, used as a measure for direct and converse progression. There are two main forms - "PHI progression" whether daily or annual, at the rate of 0.6180339887, and "+PHI progression" of its complement, 1.6180339887. It moves fast, hence an optimally precise figure. I have not yet had time to test a Minor Phi rate of 0.3819660113, nor experiment as intended with these figures as fractional harmonics, midpoint moduli and user arcs; there is a lot of work ahead! A taste of our own patterns was delicious - annual Phi for Gerard the year he met me found Moon conjunct MC, and the same progression for that time gave me MC conjunct Sun. Returning to Jeff, a converse daily Phi to April 17th put Saturn on his IC and S.Node close to his Ascendant with Neptune opposite. One more wild idea was to progress the end of his rich life to its beginning. The Phi progression arced back to 15h53 UT on December 30th 1950, where the sky had written the perfect description of this quietly accomplished and unselfish astrologer who, out of his own bereavement, had also helped many in physical and emotional pain: Uranus rising, Sun setting sextile Jupiter culminating, Moon in her own south Node trine Venus with Mercury in 7th. Here is the secret of our Golden Flowering - time, space, eternity interweave as One. There is nothing but Life; Jeff and all our departed are vivid still, a breath, a thought away. During my first sad evening this was written - ELEGY-EULOGY Jeff, John and Ron - All gone. Mayo, Addey and Davison. Charles Jayne; and Al H. Morrison. The quiet teachers, The mercurial out-reachers, The wired-world explorers, Sacrificing self for us. Walker, Elliot, Woodruff Achieved enough And they are gone To the Real With Jim, Howard, Neil; Lewis. Sasportas. And Michelson. The men of presence, The laid-back and the intense, The spiritual mothers, The many unforgotten others. Rudhyar, Ruperti, Ebertin Have been Where all is known And Moby Dick is, Johndro, Maurice Wemyss, To whom we are dreams. Ingrid Lind. Ada and Ivy. Margaret Hone. Now we are the teachers, We are the out_reachers; They before, beside us, behind us, Invisibly remind us. Requiescant et in pace Et in luce Et in laetitia! Please pass on the news. God bless, Pam ............................................................................................................ June 14th 1998 Welcome, friends, to the oasis!... There are ways of escaping the World Cup, and some of us will feel that our cup runneth over somewhat, even after a few days. All is peace in my eyrie overlooking the garden, and I thought you might be entertained to know we moved in here on Bonfire Night 1981, around sunset finally, bestowing on our home a Scorpio birthday. The point is that I can't grow anything that isn't prickly, poisonous, parasitic, blood-red, weird green, medicinal, invasive, sharp, stinging, or some pathetic little remnant of vegetation rescued from certain death among the plastic pots in Woolworths or a bankrupt garden centre. I have a very spiny golden Robinia Frisia dominating the neighbourhood landscape, that was reduced to a six-inch forked stick by gales while we were on holiday and later lost half its girth in The Hurricane. My huge goat-willow (of course! a Capricorn came to live here! ) nearly got mistaken for a weed and routed out to make room for a shed. Next door's ancient, lightning-blasted ash eventually got honey-fungus and fell across our garden, then the builders chucked cement, brick-rubble and lunch-crusts all over it, so we pretty well had to start all over again for the umpteenth time! When desperate, I cook and eat the nettles. This is definitely (quite apart from the Eucharist we celebrate once a month here) a Death-and-Resurrection house. And we have frogs. Well I never... Things got even more Plutonic when the recent monsoon washed away the soil and masonry at the edge of the hitherto firmly capped well down in the Wild Bit. Along came building inspectors and pronounced it Dangerous. Tropical Chiron and Sidereal Pluto were homing in on our tropical Scorpio Sun/Desc, with Mars right opposite (tropically on my Saturn.) And to add a little interesting detail, at the crucial moment the asteroids Gardner and Wells joined that line-up from the Draconic, with Sherlock opposite between Mars and Sun. Tropical Gardner/Wells was on our Taurus ASC, and the location was written all over the angles: Mayrhofer (for The Mayor's Arms ex-pub) con. Geranium (cranes-bill - geranos - Crane), Simonida (Simmonds, my maiden name) and Rockefellia (rockfall) all on the ASC, Ben Mayer and Patterson (my next-door neighbour) on the DESC, Meyer square Sun from Pisces S. Node, and Meyermann, Mayo, Fitzsimmons (me again) and Brewington (Faversham is a famous brewing town) all squeezed up together on the MC! The people we bought it from were called Webb, and Webb is close to the 6th-house Pisces South Node. Roger Webb was/is a professional artist, but his DIY left much to be desired.... the Moon that afternoon was in pole position in the N.Node, Virgo, 12th. Yes, I think I'll tuck myself away up here doing asteroids and leave crumbling wells ... well alone! Do your gardens behave in the same way, following the Sun on the day you moved in? (While I was writing this there was the most almighty bang that killed the lights and started Gerard's printer and the answer-phone! Thank God for battery portables and removable modems. I'm not so sure about 'oasis', it's more like 'any port in a storm'!) Now, while we're on the subject of Homes ... Cottage Appeal I have a message for readers in the USA who would like to support the Lilly's Cottage appeal by buying raffle tickets : groups can contact Leigh Westin at [email protected], and individuals wanting a few books of 5 tickets should contact Martha Ramsey at 4551 E. Alta Mesa, Phoenix, AZ 85044. Only cheques or money orders please, made out to the Urania Trust, for $10.00 per set of 5 tickets. This also covers postage, I believe. There will be raffle tickets available at the AFA Convention also. Ole Blue-Eyes is Back ...where he came from, where we all came from. I haven't looked at all Frank Sinatra's musical asteroids yet, just a few, quick to access, and put them in the chart of his passing at 22h50 PDT in Los Angeles on 14th May. The media frenzy as soon as the news broke that night is graphic: Fracastoro exactly setting opposite the rising Requiem and Angelina (don't forget we're in the City of Angels here), and a conjunction of 11th-house Fanatica/America opposite the Sun con. Mars in the 5th (where else?) Tantalisingly, just coming up below the rising Moon, ruler of the 7th, is a precise (1') conjunction of Angelica /Crosby ... do we see here the welcoming committee?!? Sidereal Latona, goddess of death, is only 5' from the trop.Sun. This is a famous passing. Fly Me To The Moon... I was, unusually for me in the morning, already deep in Solar Fire with the radio on when the news came in at 8h30. In L.A. Chiron had just passed the MC, so it had been time to tell the world (journalists have strong Chirons, gathering and disseminating information.) A rapid look at Sinatra's direct and converse annual progressions at Hoboken NJ where he was born on December 12th 1915 at 03h03 EST (Rodden gives 03h00 from his father), shows a life that had come beautifully full circle. A direct New Moon is forming in Pisces, closing a major cycle, with both direct and converse Moons in 1 degree of the sign less than 4 degrees from his natal Moon. This is being transited by the Moon's S. Node - letting go of his family. T. Uranus is back at 12 Aquarius where it began. T. Neptune is in 2 Aquarius right opposite the culminating natal Neptune in 2 Leo. As he died, Saturn - just past the T. IC - was coming onto his western horizon at the end of Aries; the rising Capricorn Moon had met his direct annual p. Ascendant. On the day of his death, Sinatra's daily Asc hit natal and direct Saturn, and the converse daily Asc had conjoined his Moon. And why so much Moon in these charts of an over-the-top Sun-sq-Jupiter Sagittarian? Because as the old astrologers knew and we occasionally forget, the Moon represents the public - and this was a very public guy. Moon in Pisces is already globally welcoming! but Frank Sinatra had draconic Moon in Aries on his Desc, and Sidereal Moon in Aquarius with the Draconic Sun/Mercury and Tropical Uranus in his angular N.Node in the 4th. He was far better wedded to the great American public than he was to any individual woman! For the public he lived, and virtually in public he died. Astrology's natural fractal Earlier this issue I mentioned the Eucharist, which is appropriate as this Sunday has been the feast of Corpus Christi, the Body of Christ. Our new sub-deacon Trish was detailed to give the sermon, and with her extensive background in healing and esotericism did a grand job of undoing any naive ideas we might have had about the true meaning of the holy communion. Coincidentally a letter came from a client up north, also full of ideas on a similar theme. All this prompts me to pass along the following ideas - that even when the events and miracles of Jesus' ministry took place, he would have taken every opportunity to use these as a vehicle for teaching the deeper wisdom to which astrology is a fundamental key. So whenever we come across specific numbers in the New or Old Testaments, we should be looking behind the apparent images to underlying astrological and/or kabbalistic symbolism. It is clear that Jesus expected his closest followers to understand and remember this deeper teaching; repeatedly he exclaims, "Do you still not understand? Are your minds closed?...have you forgotten?" Like so many of us, they continued to take literally images and actions of his that were profoundly symbolic; continually the true significance escaped them, just as it was intended to escape those in the crowd who were not spiritually ready for the Wisdom. The Number Twelve The most recurrent of all the numbers is, unsurprisingly, Twelve - sons of Jacob, jewels on the High Priest's breastplate, tribes of Israel, apostles of Jesus the Christ, gates and foundations to the Holy City and their guardian angels; 12,000 furlongs measuring the length and breadth of the City; 12x12 -144 - cubits measuring its height; twelve pearls (moons) for the gates (3 on each side of the square) ; twelve kinds of fruit yielded by the Tree of Life in the centre of the City, each month. In the Revelation of John, this glorious vision of a truly spiritual astrology as "a new heaven and a new earth", a truth banishing all lies, comes directly and purely from God, to be taught at Jesus' own command in the churches. The idea of Twelve around a Centre is the foundation of astrological wisdom, and the basis of all great truth. 144 takes us further; can I remind you of the power of the Dwad, astrology's natural fractal, 12 x 12, each Sign becoming a whole wheel? Applied to a nativity, it unveils the Idea behind the Form, the inner, unseen reality animating the outer, more obvious life. When we live according to that literally higher vibration, we raise our consciousness, our own City is Squared. If we can rise further, into the Cube of 12, the 'superdwad', we come even closer to the spiritual in ourselves. Still connected to our dense selves ( for we are all, with the worlds, the condensation of great Ideas) mentally we have risen above these in meditation or other spiritual practice, and become apparently new people. Look at your dwads and higher, and begin to know objectively something of your Higher Self. The day when Jesus and the disciples failed to escape the crowds and ended up with an impromptu picnic of 5000 people in groups of 50 and 100 (according to Mark) only 5 loaves and 2 small fishes were available to feed all the people there. Esoterically however, two fish - Pisces, the spiritual idea animating the age of which Jesus is the intitiator - is inexhaustible food for the human soul growing in awareness, love and compassion. 5 loaves are Virgo, which feeds everyone materially with Twelve baskets full remaining. In the Dwad, every Sign contains Virgo, and Pisces, among the others, complete and undiminished. In fact we know through homoeopathy that the higher the vibration, the subtler the energy, the more powerful its effect. If we eat heavenly bread - live in truth - we fill every basket, fulfil the potential of every Sign. On a second occasion, a crowd of 4000 was fed with 7 loaves that then filled 7 baskets - symbolic this time of the planetary archetypes and their fulfilment in human life... the 'seven mighty spirits before the Throne'. Jesus is imaged as the Heavenly Fish; and he refers to himself as the Bread of Life. When at the last supper before his crucifixion he asked his followers to remember him whenever they ate bread, his Body, and drank wine, his Blood, I believe he also meant us to remember this: that dry bread, or a communion wafer, is Earth and Air, the objective, dispassionate life, and wine is Water and fire, fluid transformed by the Sun, the passionate life of the soul and spirit. He came when he did (and remains with us still) to show how fully any man or woman can fulfil and exemplify every aspect of incarnate divinity. It takes time, patience and love; he set the pattern for us, and every Eucharist can become our willing entry into that mystery, using the symbols he gave us at his farewell meal, taking everything that Christ is into ourselves. To receive only bread at Communion is to be starved of the highest part of that symbolic act - union with the divine whole in love and spirit. ............................................................................................................ Three Tornadoes Andover, KS A TV documentary prompted me to pick up on some long-held data and take a fresh look at it. The Andover, Kansas tornado is one of the worst America has ever seen. It wiped out an entire trailer-park community and killed about a dozen people in the space of about 10 minutes. What was going on? An absolutely filthy Grand Cross (bodes no good for August next year) of Mars MC, Moon Asc, Mercury (wind) Desc, Uranus/Neptune IC. This was April 26th 1991, early in the tornado season in "Tornado Alley", and typically well into the afternoon at 18h30 CDT. I have the exact times from the video footage. Coordinates are 37n43, 97w08. It left the town finally at 18h40, and probably brewed up closer to 18h07 when Mars was right on the MC, before dropping its lethal, huge funnel in the area of Wichita. When you set up this chart in 4 rings, you find out why it was that particular day: Draconic Sun was right on that Mars in 13 Cancer - unlucky for more than some. And when it started its maceration of the mid-West town, the Draconic opposition of Saturn and Jupiter lay right across that Moon/Mercury/horizon axis. The sidereal Moon/Asc/Mercury was lined up with draconic Mars/Uranus, and the draconic Moon/Asc/Mercury with sidereal Mars/Uranus/Neptune. The scale of destruction, shock and misery was to be historic, and was probably karmic. It would be interesting to see if asteroids associated with vortices would show up on the angles as they should. I chose Charybdis (whirlpools), Spinrad, and one called Hayashi that comes very close to Haya_ji, the japanese god of the whirlwind. Hayashi culiminated with Chiron and the S.Node at the climax of the horror; draconic Charybdis (4 deg. from the Sun) was already on the trop.MC at 18h30, coinciding with Sidereal Charybdis, and Sun, con. tropical Desc. Another, describing the fate of many objects and bodies caught in a twister, is Impala. This was bang on the IC. Brecher (breaker) was quite close to Mars at 11 Cancer, House was in 16 Capricorn with Kaali/Uranus/Neptune and IC, the dwad of Spinrad rose with the Moon as Martir set. Rip (or R.I.P.?) was opposite the setting Mercury. Jarrell, TX A tornado that hit Jarrell, Texas (30n50, 97w37) at 15h15 CST on May 27th 1997 threw up a different pattern, no grand cross here; but it happened on the same angles! Mid-cardinals again, with Libra rising! Yet again, six years after Andover, Uranus is in 13 Capricorn at the IC - but Sidereal this time; and there is another Mercury/Saturn alignment with the Desc, this time sidereal Mercury, Tropical Saturn in mid-Aries. Spinrad is bodily at the IC, Impala sets (conjunct the draconic Asc also); a tight conjunction of Kaali/Charybdis has its dwad at the MC, and the dwad of Hayashi is on the Asc. The sidereal Ascendant is conjunct Mars again, but this time the tropical Mars, with sidereal Saturn opposite...but draconic Mars is only 3 deg from this Saturn, and in the tropical S.Node. The draconic MC is closing on the sidereal Moon. Sidereal Charybdis, with Kaali, is 2' only from exact alignment with the tropical Gemini Sun. Brecher is opposite the Moon this time, sidereal Martir conjoins tropical Saturn/Desc. Neither House nor Rip is strongly placed on this occasion. Incidentally, helio Venus 'conjoined' the MC. Selsey, Sussex A twister in England? Yes, it can even happen here, usually on a considerably smaller scale than in the USA. We had one this year, in winter, on January 8th, in the middle of the night (23h54 GMT), under conditions totally different to those that strike the Cities of the Plains. Here it hit the South coast of England at Selsey, famous home of our famous stargazer (whom I have met and failed to get a word in edgeways!) Patrick Moore. And it demolished his private observatory. Coordinates for Selsey are 50n44, 00w48. Guess what? Same angles!!! Mid-cardinals again, and Libra rising. Saturn setting. Again. Helio Mercury this time just 3 degrees past opposition to that Saturn, and square Sun/Earth. Helio Venus up there in the Cancer Midheaven again. Uranus (sidereal) at the IC, again, opposite draconic Mercury. IC just approaching the midnight Sun. Another Mars/S.Node contact, tropical to sidereal. Sun square Saturn, like Andover, and other direct echoes with draconic Moon in 20 Sagittarius at the sidereal IC - but here including the sidereal Sun/draconic Pluto - and draconic Sun opposite tropical Uranus. They both have Mars-Neptune alignments, too. Reaping the whirlwind?... The asteroids are quite different, though. The drama of a major tornado is absent; but what we do have are direct references to our astronomical sparring-partner in the eye of this cyclone! The draconic MC had touched Hayashi and Neptune within the previous 20 minutes, but at the climax of the storm Fama culminated with Porta Coeli and Moore_Sitterly at the IC, the draconic Asc moving onto Spacewatch, and tropical Patrick-Gene right on the sidereal MC with draconic Pluto, opposite Astronomia and Mercury, draconic Moon, and sidereal Sun! His very own asteroid, Moore, in 6cp40, was lined up with sidereal Venus, so all in all he had some decent publicity from the disaster!....."It's! for! You-hoo!" (overseas readers - ask any cloth-eared Britisher what this means and they're likely to tell you at great length with heart-rending angst and several lagers why it wasn't for The-em! Best not to bother.) I'll try to keep an eye on the twisters - these repeat patterns are really worth checking out. Do any of you have good tornado data to share? A Tale of two cities I have permission from a recent client to tell you about her asteroids, because they are another shining example of their descriptive power, and incidentally of the importance of relocated charts! Margaret was born Hill, but became Zelinsky by marriage. As a professional woman, her sidereal chart is of added significance. Hill, both sidereal and helio, is at her tropical IC, her roots near Sydney Australia, but the tropical Hill conjoins her MC in coelo in London where she has held down a responsible job for many years, and is known at work by her maiden name. Draconic Zelinsky is found at her place of birth appropriately conjunct the tropical Descendant ... which is her sidereal Ascendant, her own private identity as a wife, in London; and sidereal Zelinsky joins tropical Hill on her London MC, where she met and married him. Helio Margret/draconic Hill is close to the sidereal Desc in NSW and right on the draconic MC in London, where helio Margret rises and draconic Margarita sets on the tropical horizon. If you would like copies of the above (or any SMALL WORLD charts), mail me your full name and postal address, enclosing a small contribution of UK stamps or paper (changeable!) currency. Back issues ... of SMALL WORLD are available as a Rich Text Format document to download with this edition, for any recent subscriber who wants to catch up. If this doesn't work for any reason, email me and I'll re-send it individually. Custom asteroids If you would like your own asteroid reports, I can supply details of the service and charges privately on request. The complete asteroid collection of about 6000 names is accessible from my Solar Fire database and can be fully customised; you may have your own personal asteroid collection kept on my HDD for updating and printing whenever needed, as life's events unfold. This has been a longer issue than usual, but there were a lot of ideas backing up that I wanted to offer you. Again, if you find SMALL WORLD too long, let me know and I'll trim it back to a smaller bite-size. Parvulesco! that's no. 2331. Cheerio for now! and Happy Solstice! God bless, Pam August 9th 1998 Happy Hols, everyone! - and welcome to several new readers again this issue. Skip the next couple of paragraphs if you want to; they are largely anecdotal, but you may find them entertaining. Regulars will have realised that there has been something of a hiatus over the early summer; would you believe I actually abandoned astrology for nearly a month to answer the twin demands of (a) that Scorpio garden and (b) 200 visiting American choristers who were short of a tenor or two and would take any short tenor, male or female, that turned up to rehearse on top of breakfast? As yours truly has Polyhymnia conjunct Moon in 10th, how could I refuse? A gloriously operatic week ended with a sell-out performance in Rochester's ancient Cathedral, supported by the London Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and three very fine soloists. Two days earlier, Gerard and I gate-crashed the Lambeth Conference. "Now, class, for your homework you are to write as much as you can on The Day I met The Archbishop." OK - We go in this big tent to listen to gorgeous Celtic music, observe a lunch counter, gather two delicious lunches onto trays, look for the cash desk in vain and realise we are eating the Bishops' wives free food. It's too late to stop pretending Gerard's purple shirt is the conventional badge of a visiting Anglican Bish, so we tuck in greedily and guiltily in a calm sea of green and white tables, cloths, chairs, and asap head replete for the escape exit. It's about half past two. Mercury culminates with the N.Node, Chiron rises opposite the Sun/Jupiter of Jesus' Nativity. Out of a blazing blue sky rolls a fat cloud, down hurls a precisely-aimed shower, and when I look up from a fiddly brolly we are being grinned at by the one person we don't want to have to explain ourselves to! Gerard makes some comment to me about stair-rods and His Grace beams as only he can beam: "You must be British!" Er, yes, with a Blackburn accent that thick it would be hard for him to be French, Congolese, antipodean or from outer Mongolia. We grin back speechlessly and escape to the ecclesiastical Mecca of the market marquee, where we debate the finer points of vestments and try not to covet our neighbours' liturgical luxury. My personal bishop is trying on a small magenta item that sits quite nicely over the bald bit when a dreadfully familiar voice beams, "Does it suit you?" Desperate, beaming back, "Do you think it goes with my eyes?" All laugh ingratiatingly, and we are trapped there while Archbp. George Carey does his archepiscopal duty and poses self-consciously in front of numerous lenses with a small huddle of Women For Ordination. I didn't tell him about Jesus and Mary and astrology; how can you spoil a chap's day by telling him he has nourished heretics and occultists in his bosom? The 300-year glitch! But I'm going to have to rattle somebody's cage - during this astrological sabbatical I picked up a beautifully-produced free commemorative booklet at SPCK (the Society for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge), this year celebrating its tercentenary. Pages of history, fascinating illustrations - especially the facsimile of the 1st page of the minutes of the first meeting on Wednesday March 8th 1698. Good! We have a chart! No time, but we can speculate. This morning I got down to it and fell at the first hurdle. It wasn't Wednesday. Ah - I needed to correct the calendar, no problem. I must input March 18th instead. Oh dear - it still wasn't Wednesday! Then I had a closer look at the date on the Minutes; where it said "1698" there was a line under the last "8" and under this a "9". Follow the hunch - try 1699 instead - and voila! March 8th OS in 1699 was a Wednesday! I double-checked this in Frank Parise's Book of Calendars, and sure enough there was no Wednesday March 8th in 1698, only in 1699. No-one at SPCK had checked!!! They are a year early for their 300th birthday! The clerk/scribe/secretary chap must have done what we all do on cheques for ages after New Year and put last year's date - then not wanting to make a messy correction penned the correct year in underneath without actually striking the mistake through. The muddle is understandable when you look at the pattern that day - Sun late Pisces with S.Node in 2 Aries all square a chaotic/visionary opposition of Uranus and Jupiter! But the Draconic positions are of course almost exactly opposite these, with the nodes reversed to the equinoxes, so despite conscientious attempts at neatness and accuracy (dr. Sun Virgo) confusion, Pisces, managed to prevail! US Embassy Bombings Now to more sober matters - these bombs in Nairobi and Dar Es Salaam. You may well have looked at the charts by now as the times (10h35 and 10h38 am BAT respectively on August 7th '98) were published quickly. Unless you work interdimensionally you may have missed the usual signature of sudden trauma, the contact of Uranus and the angles - this time doubled, with Sidereal (public, historic) Uranus on the Tropical IC, and Tropical Uranus close to the Draconic (karmic) MC. The Sun also joins these alignments of course, with the T-square from Chiron. Asteroid America in Scorpio 17 is conjunct the Draconic Desc, configuring the draco Mars/Asc midpoint. Asteroid United Nations rises in coelo. Also in the sky in the MC is Koranna with a cluster of destructive asteroids, Siva, Alekto, Cannonia, Burns and Martir. Nemesis and Kaali are conjunct America and Chiron, square Karma, Dolores and Palach on the Sun-Uranus axis - all these configured by the draconic angles. All this suggests that we are right to look to an Islamic faction as perpetrators of this horror; that it may have been a 'kami_kazi' bombing in at least one instance; that, because most of the asteroids associated with nuclear war are also involved in this pattern ( Hiroshima, Nuki, etc) this may be part of the inevitable karmic consequence to the allies for the bombings that ended WW2, as well as conscious retaliation for the US and UN probing uncomfortably into Iraq's lethal arsenal. A More local Tragedy Terribly sadly, Kent has lost its one and only, cherished, charitably funded Air Ambulance. The helicopter was returning to its base at Rochester airport in Kent after an emergency call to a crashed car (in which nobody had been injured) on Sunday July 26th; it was nearly home, over the village of Burham, (51n20, 00E29) when it turned sharply, hit power lines (Uranus), and crashed in a ball of fire (Mars) in a field. All three on board were killed instantly, two paramedics and the pilot. The pilot was about to leave for another, long-dreamed-of job with Britannia Airways. The Kent Messenger says "The first anyone knew of the crash was when two members of the public called the emergency services at 5h46 pm." Ironically, at first it was suggested the Air Ambulance be called out - nobody realised it was this that had gone down. It was an Aero_Spatiale 'Squirrel'. At just after 17h30, the Sagittarius-Gemini horizon gathered together a lethal opposition of dwad Mars on the Asc/ dwad Uranus on Desc, plus asteroids Demiddelaer and Spacewatch (tightly conjunct) and Malin; Ultrajectum, Alekto, Atropos and Latona squared the Libra MC from their 7th_house conjunction with Mars, and Osiris (as usual when bodies are broken in death) was at the IC. Shortly after, Requiem, Swift and Aeria aligned on the Asc/Desc. As I have been finding over and over again these past few years, the devil really is in the detail. Don't neglect your fine-tuning. All In The Family! Now for a bit of fun - a Sittingbourne, Kent man named Terry Wall became a father and a grandfather within eight hours on August 3rd' 98! At 0h40 his daughter gave him a grand-daughter, Jasmine; eight hours later his wife, who was in another ward of Chatham's All Saints Hospital unaware of the drama, and had actually gone into labour as the little girl was born, produced his son Devon at about 9h00 am! Howzat! (I haven't looked at the charts yet for lack of time.) TW goes Nuclear On July 22nd the BBC's "Tomorrow's World" scooped a first - the popular science program televised the first public demonstration of nuclear fusion from the Jet Laboratories near Oxford, at 19h56 BST. The Founder of Homoeopathy David Bergin has sent me the birth-data for Samuel Hahnemann: 10th April 1755, 23h06 GMT, 51n10, 13w29. Many thanks! Lots of study to do here. Books/Tools Thanks also to Astrid Fallon, whom I had the great pleasure of meeting on Lilly Day when I was up in Nottingham doing my bit for the Lilly Cottage appeal. (What a delightful place!) Do try to obtain Astrid's book of analogue graphic ephemerides from 1920_2040. She has provided us with the ideal visual aid to transit patterns when the need is to work swiftly, immediately and effectively. I find them invaluable when working with a client, face_to_face or over the telephone. She has followed up with "Cycles et Calculs Astrologiques" - this is untranslated so far from her French, so you will need to be sufficiently fluent. I shall have to send this out now. I have run out of time for the present and will be in touch with you all again in another few weeks. But there is a postscript to the Scorpio Garden!... this from John Ball: Your scorpionic garden rings a bell. Here's one for your files if you wish: On 2 November 1991 I moved into my favourite residence to date - no longer there of course. I rented the rural farmhouse where pop singer Jim Croce lived when he became famous, most of his major hits were written there. It's in the hamlet of Lyndell, Pennsyvlania, house was built in 1750. Evidently this had been coming for the previous 10 years, because I took a liking to Croce's music in 1981 and often sang his standards during a spell in the Rocky Mountains. I was particularly fascinated by the cover photo on his album, "Don't Mess Around With Jim," (scorpio) where he appears in the cathedral shaped window of a whitewashed building. Looked like a Spanish Mission and I assumed it was in Puerto Rico or New Mexico. However when I answered the ad for the residence and went to inspect, the landlady asked if I were familiar with Croce (his association had not been adverstised), and she pointed to an old outhouse (scorpio!) - about 5 feet circular - where the photo was taken. For years I had wanted to find the site of that cover photo but it found me. Sun mercury mars and pluto were all in scorp when I moved in, and I have an intercepted 5th house in scorpio, tenanted by neptune. Jim is, of course, deceased. Usually I played his recordings for my guests when I entertained there. I grew nothing there but the premises are partly wooded and full of wild fertile growth of all kinds. The central bit of flora is an ash tree which is over 300 years old and therefore a contemporary of the first white settlers. The house is reputed to be haunted. While there I adopted a stray cat, who moved in under a moon-pluto opposition and found his first proper home. I also experienced my one and only earthquake there, which is extremely rare in Pennsylvania. ... and our own prickly, dramatic, resilient patch has now acquired two corners of Fixed Water - one surveyed by the serene gaze of a stone Buddha, the other guarded by a fiery-eyed green lizard!!! Bless you all, Back soon! Pam ........................................................................................................... Thursday September 10th 1998 Welcome, my friends, to the BILL CLINTON SPECIAL! Is there truly anything more to be said about this man? - well, tomorrow the fat goes into the fire as the Monica Lewinsky report is presented to Congress, and I thought you would all like to know what is going on with the President of the USA. Interestingly, it is less the Solar Returns that spell trouble in store for Bill, despite the eclipse so close to his Sun at the end of August. Guess where we find the full, unexpurgated script for this year's drama? Have you ever tried the Annual Tertiaries? No? Then maybe Bill's True Tertiary for this year's birthday/birthtime will stir you to action; this is what we find... Virtually a copy of his natal Sidereal angles (of which, more anon!!!), with Uranus in Gemini in the Midheaven opposite Sagittarius Moon at the IC, square the rising Virgo Mercury/Jupiter conjunction - so a year dogged again by The Woman, private life exposed to the public, radical change in his goals and/or worldly position, plus huge amounts of verbal, political, economic ducking and diving, negotiating and manoeuvring. Sun conjunct Neptune in the 1st house unsettling his security, blurring his sense of identity, perpetuating pretence and self-glorification in his flight from the realities that hound him. Pretty good, eh? But now just take a look at those asteroids. Was there ever such an accurate script for a man who would be adored by his country and the world, being confronted by his prosecutors and forced into telling the whole sorry and bawdy truth about the relationship that is now unseating him? Is he ever dredging the dictionary and his own rhetorical skills to prop up his damaged image? What a debt of karma is building here, and what a temptation to sublimate his personal war in more attacks on real or imagined enemies! We have: MC and Uranus conjunct Adorea, Gaea (and, ominously, Schadow); at the IC with the Moon, Martir, Amor and necessarily Probitas; Sun/Neptune opposite Lucifer (!) and conjunct Lowengrub (which is German for "Lions' Den", which is likely to be both his own playpen as it were and the nightmare into which he, his lies and his pride are being thrust, the power-pack with its claws unsheathed.) Rising is the impressive collection of Monica, Veritas, Lilith, Imago, Rabelais, and Nietzsche in confrontation with the setting Hooveria (FBI), Starr (the chief prosecutor) and Bellona. He still thinks he is Superman. But in the S.Node in the 5th (surprise, surprise!) with Pravdo ("truth" in Russia in case you'd forgotten) is Multatuli, which means a heavy burden of debt to bear. Will our hero pull off the Great Escape? Wait for next week's (?) thrilling instalment! Now, because it's getting late and I want you to get this on time, it must be on its way. But tomorrow I shall follow this appetiser with the banquet of Bill Clinton's astonishing interdimensional birth chart, his destiny mapped out ineradicably in the asteroids. Happy Friday! Friday September 11th 1998 BILL CLINTON SPECIAL Part Two... Dear Friends - It is necessary to apologise to those of you who have tried replicating the following chart; it is of course the converse chart. Sorry! It was late, and my brain was fried. THE TROPICAL CHART First of all, we tackle that famous Tropical chart with its glamorous Libran Mars/Neptune rising conjunct Venus. Very pretty. That's the Geo version. The Sun/Moon square from 8th to 11th signals hiccups in relationship, but millions of us have quarter Moons and survive. Did you check out the Helio? Now here's a shift - Mars, from apparent weakness in Libra, startles by moving into Jupiter's new territory at the start of Scorpio ... and squares Saturn. Venus goes angular, approaching the Geo IC in 1 Capricorn. Very un-Libran. And this is the real engine of our lives, the Helio. It's like the furiously paddling underwater feet of the gliding swan! Bill has engine trouble. He may come across as innocuous charm incarnate, but below the surface in the secret self, under the hood, he needs and longs to get under the sheets. A Mars-Jupiter man has a strong sexuality; and a square from Saturn in 10th sets desire on a collision course with duty. Psychologically, he may be anxious enough to have to keep proving his own virility to himself, since Mars at odds with either Saturn or Neptune finds it hard to sustain energy; nervous or physical exhaustion can plague the man or woman with this kind of pattern, and there is the need to try all the harder to compensate. Frustration is hard to take, and as a result folk with a Mars-Saturn block on powerful drives can become overly assertive, pushy, aggressive, even violent. There's a lot going on under that barely ruffled exterior. And Helio Mercury now in Aries opposite Chiron, will insist on pushing its own point of view to anyone who will listen; Mercury_Chiron clashes don't take counsel easily from others. DWADS In Small World we do dwads, too, to zoom in on the fingerprints of the chart. In the Helio chart, Bill Clinton has dwad Capricorn Mercury conj. Neptune with radix Venus at the geo IC. Yes, that can represent a romantic ideal of physical beauty ... and it can also betray a self-justifying flight from truth. There is a light and a dark side to all our patterns. The Geo chart dwads are incredibly busy: Mercury's dwad in the 1st degree of Scorpio meets the helio Mars/Jupiter square Saturn - and now is having to face up to the heavy weight of T Saturn opposite in Taurus. The Capricorn IC adds to its collection an embrace by dwad Moon and N.Node opposite dwad S.Node/Jupiter at the MC; and you may or may not have noticed that the sidereal transiting Saturn/Neptune square is stirring up that particular mud, at the same time as it threatens the Mars/Neptune/ASC/DESC. No surprise, then, to find dwad Mars itself in the Sag. S. Node connected to a tight dwad conjunction of Pluto and Neptune. Opposite this Mars is the dwad Sun in 12 Gemini in 9th (manhood, power, initiative, leadership, winning, courage ... and international relations ... are such a dominant issue), in turn close to the dwad Desc at 6 degrees. Here is where the Pluto transit is hitting home hard, and won't let up until it is past the S.Node in 18 Sagittarius and debts have one way or the other been paid. The Dwad shows us something akin to the Idea behind the Form of the Radix, and should be calculated to the degree/minute to yield its information effectively. Approximations are unnecessary, and only second-best. Look at Clinton's recently-eclipsed Sun: it is joined by dwad Saturn with less than a degree of orb to square a Moon now conjunct dwad Chiron. Here at last is an emerging picture of personal pain, a learning curve in relationships necessitated by his vanity, a drive to control, and the constant challenge to self-discipline from the "temptations of the Flesh." THE DRACONIC ISSUES The Sun comes even more dramatically into focus as we open the Draconic zodiac to look at the principles he has built into himself as a soul and brought with him this time around. For here it is again in Gemini, in 9th, marking Bill Clinton as a negotiator, a figure on the world stage - but at 7 degrees, and right in T Pluto's firing line. This embattled President is getting a double whammy of T Pluto to Sun! And it's escalating. Meanwhile, the Draconic transit of Pluto is about to hit all his Tropical angles from 5 Cancer, peaking the first week of October '98. (Notice also that in April this year Dr. Jupiter went over his rising cluster as Dr. Chiron hit that Dr.Sun; then in May/June Dr. Neptune passed over his Leo Sun as Dr. Uranus squared the Dr. Gemini Sun from 7 Virgo - where it has now returned! Come November, this Uranus will have moved right onto his Tertiary Converse ASC and all it is carrying, plus - well, wait a paragraph or so!) Getting back to Draco, Dr. Gemini Sun folk are here as communicators, movers and shakers. They are the speakers, thinkers, writers, speech-therapists, driving instructors, linguists, switchboard operators, greeters, mailmen, etc etc. A very dear friend of mine, born a day after Bill Clinton with different angles, is a superb linguist, taught languages, and during a low period filled in as a Post Office counter clerk. And incidentally, this is why all those earnest attempts at statistical proof using professions and Sunsigns were doomed from the start; briefly, you'll get far more useful information from the Draconic and the Sidereal, as respectively they carry vocation and social role, to which the Tropical then adds inclinations and aptitudes.) So our Bill, in a fix, will always fall back on the thing that matters most and has ever supported him as surely as the ringed trunk supports the gale_torn tree _ words. But Pluto may teach him that fine words may not always be enough. There has to be real sincerity, genuine contrition and humbling of an arrogant soul. The Ascendant cluster goes into Cancer; he will try for the emotional appeal. And the Moon is in 2 Pisces in the tropical 5th. I am beginning to feel quite sorry for Bill, because men with Pisces Moons are emotionally very vulnerable, however tough they try to appear. In a word, Bill is a pushover for romance. With him it's not just a physical romp, an exciting fling; he actually believes in romantic liaison, hearts and flowers, candlelight and soft music, making love to the beautiful woman of his dreams. The idealisation of womanhood that goes on here becomes embarrassing often, when the beloved finds herself put on such a high pedestal that she can no longer live up to the ideal without pretending to be something she isn't and losing a grip on reality. So these romances sadly, frequently fail. In Bill Clinton's case, the picture is more complicated than this, and it may be that Pisces means the thrills of secrecy which, along with its deceits and machinations, cannot be sustained. There is no doubt however that in his soul Bill Clinton is feeling deeply hurt as he comes to terms with this damaging weakness in his emotional nature. THE BIG PICTURE It's time to open right up to the whole fourfold wheel, combining the tropical geo and helio with both Draconic and Sidereal. This man holds one of the most powerful positions in the world. His role takes precedence over his personal concerns, as with any public figure. This is why the Sidereal chart should take precedence over the Tropical and Draconic, even though all interconnect. So in the quadriwheel the Sidereal goes at the centre. You will usually find that the person whose Sidereal angles collect many planets from the other three levels, is here to focus primarily on their public role. What do we find in the pattern for Bill Clinton? What we have is a set of Sidereal angles that closely match those crucial converse Tertiaries for his 1998 birthday. The Asc is the same - 11 Virgo, with the conjunct planets running through the same sign. My linguist friend actually ended up as a skilled homoeopath; his draconic aptitudes alone never led to a lasting profession. He had to go out and use all that fastidious earth he never realised was there! Now as an Englishwoman somewhat out of touch with the finer details of US politics, I cannot comment on how the President has honoured his Virgo stellium so far - please enlighten me! But the Sun remains in Leo, at 2 degrees, conjunct tropical Saturn and Draco Chiron/Jupiter, marking him out as indeed a born leader, organiser, exemplar, establishment figure, in whose life serious duty is central, and to whom the building of bridges - of trust, of information, of resources, of understanding - is profoundly important. Now we can look at other details, some asteroids that stand out here: with that Tropical Saturn are Prudentia and Goodman, and opposite is Draconic Russia; we can see virtues emerging here that have led him into and sustained him so far in the Presidency and the public's goodwill. But the transits of Tropical Saturn and Neptune are hitting this axis now, and his own pedestal is wobbling badly. Saturn hasn't yet even finished with his 26 Aries Sidereal Moon, conjoined from 23 and 24 degrees with asteroids Prey (!), Ireland, and Imago, also Epikouros and Jetta at 27 degrees - not till January '99. He has a lot to lose, self-indulgence has to end, and we are not yet at the climax of his drama. The Sidereally beleaguered Tropical angles carry Sidereal Saturn on the MC (shades of the Queen's culminating Saturn) adding to his burdens, with a helio conjunction of Vaino and Williams at the IC square Tropical Asc and Virtus, Helio Interposita, and setting Tropical Clintford with Helio Russia and Draco Uranus. Here are his names on the angles, with a clear indication of a genuine, deep, purposive drive to act as an intermediary in Russia's difficulties - plus this uncomfortable mixture of virtue and underlying vanity. HEADING FOR THE CLIMAX The main story, the thickest part of the script for Bill Clinton's life and presidency is discovered - as I had expected from past experience - on the Sidereal angles themselves. Precisely to the minute on the 12 Gemini MC is the 12 Gemini trop. dwad Sun, with the Draco Sun close by. As you will find if you put interdimensional astrology into practice, these are the angular Suns you find describing royalty as well as presidents and other high-profile, high-achieving individuals or organisations. It is this crucially important axis and its squaring Asc/Desc that has begun the Pluto process this year of personal exposure, purging and renewing. What is normally a desperate private trauma in most peoples' experience, becomes public humiliation possibly to the point of political death for this man, as it all happens on the Sidereal, public angles - where we find the following: MC and two Suns conjunct Alcock, Randi, Pawlowia, Buffon, Fama, Polites, Prometheus, Atlantis, Pax, Dionysus, Draco dwad Clintford and the tight helio pairing of Tacitus and Blarney! - opposite, at the IC ( and also close to the S. Node/dwad Mars ) helio Galante, Monica and Paula, Tropical Cupido, Achilles (heel?!), Pyrrhus (we all know what kind of victory he ended up with), Lilith and Lysistrata (hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn), and Mori (even the polls will let him down in the end.) Also in the sky at the IC we find Sidereal Descamisada (who takes his shirt off), Lowengrub (that private den again), Crimea (was there a crime?) and at home with him Hilaritas. Rising: bodily with Sid. Mars etc, we find Lust, Delila, and Anhalt (arrest); Draconic Monica and Williams; Tropical Perepadin (one who insists on going his own way), Haupt (the boss man), and Starr, all with the Trop. dwad MC to boot; and helio Hybris. Setting opposite these are draco Nietzsche with Tropical Legia (laws) and threatening Damocles. For good maesure, Tropical Monica and Paula are in late Scorpio close to the Sidereal S.Node and opposite Draco Pluto. Here is the script, sex, power, stupidity, international politics, betrayal, downfall; the stars of the show are all on stage, on their marks; this episodic drama is going to run and run until director Pluto brings down the curtain on the very last act in 2003. See what I mean? Next question - where did free will go? The only answer I have to that so far, with my circumscribed human understanding, is that maybe we have far less than we think, and it is in our attitude to what we meet in our lives that we are free to respond and to grow and clamber back to the divine. Jesus said, "For offences must come - but woe to those by whom the offences come!" (my italics.) And we have all heard the one about "the sins of the fathers" being visited on all the subsequent generations. Maybe the "Fall" was humanity making mistakes that set off this ghastly, apparently unbreakable cycle of endless karmic debit and credit, out of which there are only narrow, bright, but easily missed exits? Feedback from you on this? Let us join to hold President Bill Clinton, his family, and all involved in this turmoil in the light of our love and our prayers. God bless and help us all! Pam ............................................................................................................ September 1998 Hallo folks! Back to something nearer normal now. Did you all have a good Conference? Sorry I couldn't make it this year - too much going on - but the programme looked very good. Isn't it wonderful - science finds Mars smothered in iron ore so copious that its dust turns the sky pink, and now that the Moon, mistress of tides, "has six billion metric tons of water" possibly forming deposits of solid ice. Do we now wait for the discovery of copper sulphate crystals beautifying the secret surfaces of Venus? Lead emissions from Saturn? Lakes of liquid gold at the heart of the Sun? Planets got into the Daily Mail on August 31st; one Derek Shuff of Northiam wrote, "May I respectfully suggest that if anyone, including Prince Charles, wants to remember quickly and accurately the nine planets in order from the Sun (Letters) they would find it easier using the sentence: 'Make Valerie Eat Meat, John Says U Need Protein.' ... This nine-word sentence is surely easier to learn than a 138-word story-line. It has always worked for me, but ask me to remember a family birthday and I find it impossible." Not too good for the amnesiac veggies among us! Anyone out there got a more enticing and creative mnemonic? Not that we should actually need one! And what do you all do to prevent the awful embarrasssment of neglecting birthdays of Nearest and Dearest while up to your ears in everyone else's? On September 3rd a book arrived in the mail that I had ordered ages ago from a new book club, "Shrines of Our Lady" by Peter Mullen. Out of interest I did the chart for its arrival at 12h20 BST. Sure enough, there gracing the tropical Desc from both the Helio and the Sidereal was a close conjunction of Maria and Isis ... with Jesus' Nativity Sun degree setting! Not only that, but their Draconic conjunction (opposite Pluto) was right on the Sidereal Moon, and the Tropical position close to the Draco Gemini Asc, while Mary fell only 2 degrees from the draco Asc. The trop. Moon in 0 Aquarius with Neptune was conjunct Yeshuhua (Jesus) opposite Sidereal Venus, still in orbs of the joined meridian and Node axes. Charis (grace) and Veritas (truth) were at the IC, and Donna (Madonna) conjunct Sun. These shrines are of course places of pilgrimage - and sure enough, there also was Pellegrini setting, with the road, Chemin, rising! Finally, in the Midheaven was a wonderful constellation of Christa, Amor, Victoria, Raphaela (the great healing angel) and for good measure Josephus Flavius the historian who chronicled the events of Jesus' trial and crucifixion. This is no trivial pattern. My own name was also rising with Chiron and Sidereal Mary. While neither the Divine nor most of us treading our own paths seek to deflect others from their proper routes onto our own, it is clear that here at least for me and for those of you who are of a similar persuasion, is a powerful message of encouragement to trust the work of the Divine Woman and Christ in the modern world, and to find spiritual refreshment in the places whose atmosphere sings with their incredible energy. Fresh from 11 days in Lourdes, I say amen to that! As work now calls, there will be quite a breather between this short issue and the next. So fear not - this isn't the start of an inundation! Meanwhile, do email SMALL WORLD with any ideas and feedback you like, and let me know if you want it included in the next issue. God bless, Pam ............................................................................................................ October 10th 1998 Happy Mercury-square-Neptune, folks!... Even so, I am going to knock your socks off with the two main items in this issue following the introductory paragraphs. Patterns so striking that even the professional sceptic might be persuaded. Whether James Randi would part with his dollars is another matter! I just spent a cheery ten minutes figuring out how to stop this issue bleeding all the yellow from your inkjet _ it seemed to be under the very mistaken impression that I wanted the whole text highlighted in acid gold. It happened to me once; now I do have the N.Node in sunny Leo, but all that precious yellow spewing out of the printer was most upsetting. Anyway, starting with a clean doc. has fixed it. Good news for those of you who have been bending my ear about a new edition of "Draconic Astrology" - Flare Publications are publishing it next year (It actually appeared in 2000); it will be reworked, extended and enhanced as Volume One of Interdimensional Astrology (no-one has commissioned Volume Two, so The Adventurous Astrologer will have to do instead!). So I'm in for a busy winter, and Small Worlds may get smaller for a while!!! We'll see. ACCURATE DATA There is one possibly infallible source of research data for Small-Worlders ... the Checkout! Have you read your till receipts recently? Lo, there, recorded to the minute, is the time you legally began your intimate relationship with the new VCR, electric toothbrush, strange food, daunting medication, life-changing software - whatever. I actually bought a new electric toothbrush a few weeks ago, at 16h56 bst on 27th August in Faversham's Superdrug: Capricorn ASC (teeth), under a brilliant Grand Cross of Mars (friction) / Saturn at IC (teeth & tartar!) / Uranus (electric) / Scorpio Moon conj.MC (objective:deep cleansing) And the Virgo Sun, ruler of 8th, was conj. the N.Node in the 8th and square Pluto. As this lot happened to be hitting my chart where it hurt, I was feeling increasingly migrainey; when I got home and tried the new toy, the vibration (7000 rpm or 117 cps) felt decidedly weird... and then my head cleared! Interesting. There is much fun to be had with this. PLUTO ... is opposite our Saturns, we 1943 folk, and woe betide the misbehaving weed, the un-paperless office, the chipped mug, the unflattering frock. Some years ago under not dissimilar conditions, a Hum began, such as Pooh might have hummed had he been of an astrological disposition: " I have an urge To purge; Pluto is back to haunt me, Nothing on earth can daunt me, I have an urge To purge..." I'm sure you know the tune! So far it's the filing cabinets, years of neurotically conserved boxes in an inaccessible loft, over-zealous ivy, and the nasturtiums ( which, in our famously Scorpio garden turn into Triffids after one night of unaccustomed rain ) but who knows what further havoc may yet be wreaked (wrought?) ON EVEN DARKER MATTERS Michael Stone has been in the dock, accused of the murder of Dr. Lyn Russell and her younger daughter Megan as they walked home at Chillenden in Kent about 16h20 on July 9th 1996. Estimated coordinates are 51n14, 1e14. I'd like to know what Gary Heaton finds in this chart, but he hasn't sent me his email address yet - can anyone put us in touch? Timing the attack At 16h25 there was a configuration of Moon in 6th/Pluto in 1st = Asc/Desc. This actually creates an interdimensional (IDA for short from now on!) line-up of Tropical Moon, Draconic Asc/Desc and Sidereal Pluto - a public trauma involving a woman, a child, with possibly karmic elements. On the tropical Desc are Draconic Pluto and sidereal Venus. At this point we probably see the start of the drama, the attraction to the woman and her two children. At 16h32 the MC conjoins asteroid Sabine (rape of women). At 16h37 the IC meets sidereal Saturn, and they are being obstructed, frightened; this may be when Josie was tied up in the way she has described to the court. At 16h50 we have MC on asteroid Lynn (14virgo53) and conjunct Sidereal Chiron, then at 16h52 opposite Meges (15pisces55), with asteroid Josefa (23scorpio00) rising, sidereal Mars now on the tropical Desc with Xenophanes (strange-looking); and it is still on the Desc as MC reaches the sidereal N.Node and tropical Josephina (17virgo01). Here is Josie's suffering as she hears her mother's cries. Paine is on the MC at 16h53. At 17h05 the MC squares Mars in coelo while exactly opposing asteroid Armandhammer at the IC. This would appear to describe 40 minutes of increasing terror. At the beginning... At the start, DoctorWatson is on the MC and Celsius is setting; Fahrenheit and Descamisada (shirtless) are conj. Sun - and so is Phaethon (a driver) and Nemesis, and Requiem. Square the Sun are Apollonia (one who is highly educated, cultured) and Desdemona. Opposite the Sun is Russell (16cap13). This is where I get the shivers, because we know who murdered Desdemona; and Cupido and Loke (the malign norse god) are opposite the Moon, which is conjunct Kaali; and Antigone (the incestuously-begotten daughter) is at the IC. It would seem to have been a hot day, and the trio and/or the man watching them lightly-dressed. The driver is described, and the imminence of death ... but the asteroids suggest that something built up to this; desire and destruction lie in wait for these three, and it may only appear to have been money the man demanded. Unhealthy attraction may have been an element. Why is Desdemona involved?...what is under the surface of this tragedy? Where is Michael Stone? A potentially disquieting thing at first was the absence of any equally obvious positioning of asteroid Stone, which is in 28gemini05, 3gemini24 sidereally, 15sag47 in the draconic, still 3deg. from opp. Mars. It is however squared by the MC at 16h51 when Paine culminates. Michel (Michael) is found with Saturn right opp. Chiron at 9aries05, so at 16h48 its sidereal position (14pisces24) is on the tropical IC. At this time, therefore, the name of the accused is firmly printed on the murder scene together with those of his victims. When we lookat the dwads of "Michel Stone", and the midpoint of the two asteroids forming his name, we find the following: TropDwad Stone - 7 Taurus conj. Moon and Draconic ASC. TropDwad Michel - 19 Cancer conj. Sun. Trop. Michel/Stone midpoint - 18taurus35 conj Desc, Draconic Pluto, Sidereal Venus at 16h20 when they were last seen. And at the same time, still embracing orbs of the very same midpoint axis which they formed in 16 Scorpio just after 4 o'clock, were Lynn/Russell, Meges/Russell, Jose/Russell. There the three of them were - and there he was too... waiting two degrees, twenty minutes away. How clearly the dreadful story is told. How can anyone, seeing this, underestimate the importance of the asteroids? Now have a look for yourselves; can you cast more light on motives here? Are there hidden agendas around this 8th house Sun? Q's and Answers! Now then - here is what I have been itching to tell you for a couple of months but couldn't because it was to be aired first at the UT on 30th September. It is one of the most interesting and useful spins on synastry I have come across in a long time, and it started when a client came about a troubling relationship. She was desperate to make a clear decision, and without examining the man's chart this was proving impossible. For once it felt important enough to waive my usual scruples about the need for consent, but even so, nothing clear enough emerged to be helpful to her. We needed a time, and we didn't have one. THE QUOTIDIAN Then a thought occurred to me: every day at your birth-time a transiting pattern forms which characterises that day's impact - or lack thereof - on your life. Confusingly, these sensitive daily charts are known as Quotidians, which is also the term used by some astrologers for the important Daily Progressed Angles, or DPA's. The point was that this man was born on a day which like any other would be sensitised at my client's birth-time, yielding a Quotidian! A moment later, I was looking at Saturn conjunct Descendant, and we had our answer. She could see for herself that no joy would ever be hers if she stayed with this difficult man, only frustration and unhappy consequences. Her relief was touching. 'Q' CHARTS IN SYNASTRY If a Quotidian - henceforth a Q chart - could be so dramatically useful in cases where one of two birth-times (or indeed inception times) was unknown, then it must surely be worth examining even where all times were known. So out came the well-worn file on the Princess of Wales. And this is what we find (taking Diana's time as 19h45): Charles Q Diana (ie Charles' date, Diana's time) Saturn conj. IC Diana Q Charles (ie Diana's date, Charles' time) Saturn conj ASC _ illustrating vividly the marriage of duty, the inevitable mutual unhappiness, the loneliness, the estrangement. Now, there is an extra facet to this that emerged by a mistake I made: there is a real Q and an apparent Q! ... depending on Zone Time! Above, we have the times corrected, but I also put up a chart for an uncorrected time, altering the pattern by an hour. Now we find: Diana CQ Charles (ie Diana's date, Charles' GMT time on her BST Clock) Sun conj. Desc! And look at this: Camilla CQ Charles (ie Camilla's date, Charles' GMT time on her BST Clock) Sun conj. Desc! (and S.Node conj.MC) Whereas - Camilla Q Charles (ie Camilla's date, Charles time, corrected) Mars conj. IC! Intriguingly - and by now unsurprisingly, we find Charles Q Camilla (ie Charles' date, Camilla's time, corrected) Moon conj. Desc .... implying that for Camilla, a relationship with Charles is as good as a wife to a husband; BUT for Charles with her there will only ever be the appearance of a true and heartfelt relationship, just as with Diana. The reality is what so many Scorpio men do with Mars at the IC!... ( Now I can vouch for this personally! PamNotYetCrane CQ GerardCrane = Mars conj. ASC, whereas PamToBeCrane Q GerardCrane = Moon conj. Desc. ie GJC thought I was going to be an unaccustomed fling, but soon found that in fact he had a wife!) And this theme continues as we explore this network of relationships further: Divorce Q Charles: Mars conj.IC (again!!!) opp. Neptune at MC (note that the divorce actually took place 12 hours earlier with Neptune at IC, Mars at MC, and Charles was born with Neptune at IC! Interpret at will ... Divorce Q Camilla: Moon conj. Desc (again!!!) Sun conj. ASC. She reckon she got her man. (But Pluto squaring?) Divorce Q Diana: Moon conj. ASC, Sun conj. Desc! again, squared byPluto. Now then, does this mean she really refused to recognise the divorce? Or did she already have a replacement in mind, a real husband, for whom she was now free? Mohammed Al Fayed CQ Diana: Moon conj. ASC. Appears to have gained in her a daughter. ( My Dad also has Moon conj. ASC at my birth time _ but the real Q. Mohammed Al Fayed Q Diana: Venus Desc, Mars conj. MC. Hmmmmm. Did she realise? Dodi Al Fayed CQ Diana: Mercury Desc, Jupiter conj. MC. Seems to be just a fun-loving, wealthy friend ... Dodi Al Fayed Q Diana: Sun conj. Desc, Moon conj. IC (and Chiron), Neptune ASC. ... but when T. Saturn hit this angular cardinal T_square she was to be united with him spiritually in death (Moon on 4th!) Crash CQ Diana: Jupiter ASC, Moon Desc. That moment should only have meant shared enjoyment ... but ... Crash Q Diana: Moon's South Node conj. ASC, Sun in orbs of Desc with Mercury. It actually meant sacrifice of her material body, union with the man. And it even works the other way round, ie "what does Diana mean to this crash?"... Diana Q Crash (ie Crash time and place on Diana's date): South Node conj. ASC (again!!!) also Chiron; Mars, Pluto, N.Node, Uranus all Desc.Sacrifice of material body in traumatic accident. We can do the same with Charles: Charles CQ Crash (ie uncorrected Crash time, Charles' date and place): Saturn conj. ASC. He appears to be bereaved and grieving. Charles Q Crash (real time and place of crash, Charles' date): Pluto ASC, Mercury/S.Node at IC, N.Node at MC. In reality his life is transformed and he has to let go of the past to take his future, his royal career, seriously. and with Dodi: Dodi Al Fayed Q Crash ( ditto, Dodi's date): Mars Desc in Gemini. Too fast. ... and for his birthplace instead of Paris: Moon ASC, Sun conj. IC, Neptune at MC. Spiritual union of man and woman. Again. I could go on; the relationship - apparent and real - between the Queen and Prince Philip, between them, the Queen Mother, and the younger Royals; and every excuse for synastry in the files! Take a look for yourselves and see what you find. Realise, too, that lack of a birthtime need never trouble us so much again, since it is now clear that a chart can be reliably set for a time that is known to be of deep significance in that person's life. Enjoy! Blessings, Pam ............................................................................................................ November 1998 Happy (?!) Libra, folks: I hope you are not getting blown about like tumbleweed or having to shell out for a new Ark! Any weather experts out there? Certainly the new moon of October 20th was a miserable affair, in its unkind configuration with Saturn/Neptune. Interesting to see that the old god of weather and storm, none other than wise, bountiful Jupiter, is angular in the UK's west country where the worst of the havoc has so far been wrought. The helio Jupiter is tighter to the geo angle in each case, too. Worth looking at this more closely. There are asteroids for weather; currently Wetherill (why not?) and Wild (it most certainly is!) are conjunct the angular Jupiter, and the New Moon pulls into its awful T-square Britten (Britain), Hella and Poseidon. There are even more on angles, such as SURF, Pounds, House and Celsius. *** Of political note is the New Moon's conjunction with asteroid Israel at this crucial phase of its relations with Palestine. FURTHER TO THE LAST ISSUE .......... I picked up a Daily Mail amongst other papers last Saturday Oct. 24th to read the post-verdict reports on Michael Stone (of whom more in a minute.) The bonus was a piece by the gossip columnist Nigel Dempster on the relationship between Princess Diana and the Fayeds. He says: "I was with the Princess of Wales when she met Dodi Fayed. It was July 4, 1987, and we were chatting on a warm summer's afternoon at the Guards Polo Club on Smiths Lawn in Windsor Great Park....the polo match had just finished. ..... Diana .... showed little interest when introduced to Dodi ..... Dodi and Diana had no interest in each other, and it was to be another decade before they met again, with tragic consequences." He goes on to add that he had been a friend of Dodi's for ten years, and that one of his early lady-friends used to call him not Dodi but Doo_Doo _ no wonder asteroid Dudu works for him! He makes some fascinating comments that link back to the Q charts in October's Small World, vividly confirming the patterns found between the three and their implications "... Dodi was pressed by his father to continue pursuing Diana ..... Fayed's erstwhile brother-in-law, Adnan Khashoggi ..... laughing at the Mohamed-inspired romance between his nephew and Diana, said, 'Surely it should have been Mohamed pictured with Diana. He's the one in love with her, but he's married.' (Remember all that Mars/Venus?) " And when Dempster encountered Dodi at Harrods early in August '97 and asked him "What's going on between you and Diana?" Dodi replied, "We're just friends". Remember, the Q charts indicated that this is how the relationship appeared to the couple, whereas they were blind to the more profound implications that would go down in history. LEAVING NO STONE UNTURNED ..... Asteroid Stone is coming closer and closer to the conjunction with retrograding Jupiter, as Michael Stone begins his triple life sentence for the murders and attempted murder of the Russells. And now, too, the appeal process begins as one of the key trial witnesses admits to perjuring himself in court. The newspapers of October 24th, the day after the majority Guilty verdict, obliged us with birthdata for Stone: June 7th 1960 at Pembury Hospital, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. His bio is a tale of abuse (yes, with a hammer), neglect, rejection; a four-times married mother from gypsy stock; several siblings of whom one sister, Barbara, was someone he could identify with and fiercely defend; drug addictions, thieving, damage, bad company, Borstal, prison. Familiar stuff. Bear in mind that the jury is given no background at all. They have to assess only the facts of the immediate case. Remembering the power of Q charts, I have put up Stone's chart for 16h51 BST, the apparent time of the actual murders, suggested by that extraordinary clustering of names and concepts in mid-Virgo/Pisces we looked at last month. I can now add to that list, by the way, the name of Josie's little dog that also died, Luce for Lucy, right up in the MC at that terrible moment at 15 Virgo with Josephina (Josie's full name) and - chillingly - opposite Janequeo at the IC in 16 Pisces, the name of his mother, Jane. This looks suspiciously like a textbook displacement of matricide. ASTROLOGY'S VERDICT Now, is there anything in Stone's own pattern that suggests the jury came to the right conclusion? Well, Mars had just transited his Sun. This was at it's most acute, applying by one degree, five days earlier, that he told his psychiatric nurse Margaret Stewart that he was in a mood to kill someone and needed help. The next day, at the murder time, the conjunction of T Mars to Sun was exact and square the Moon in 16 Pisces conjunct Janequeo. On the afternoon of the murders the Moon had moved to 10 Taurus; here it was conjunct Stuart (Stewart) in his own chart, and right opposite the midpoint of his Moon/Neptune conjunction in Scorpio. A Rectified Chart And this last is the pattern we get (at 7h00 am on June7th 1960) if we use the activity of asteroids to rectify the chart. New stuff again. OK. How do we go about this? (1) Take all the asteroids that relate to both the murder scenario, to his identity, and his upbringing. (2) Find the axis/axes around which the majority form significant, descriptive clusters. (3) Adjust the chart so that at least one if not two such axes form the angles and then apply astrological commonsense to a firm choice, noting the time. (4) Test this chart against events using returns, annual and daily progressions, solar arcs, etc. (5) If everything behaves as it should in relation to known circumstances, save as the Speculative Chart. (1) and (2) Hard work with the asteroid database revealed first of all Barbara at 18 Scorpio 33, implying a birth between dawn and dusk to place this asteroid appropriately in orbs of the Moon. After all, his sister was the only woman he really felt close to. My experience is that asteroids 'work' up to 5 degrees either side of the Lights and angles, although most contacts lie within a degree or two. His other lady, Rachele, turns up - interestingly - in mid-Virgo, at 17 Vi 06, on the axis square Stone's natal Sun that carries the principal asteroids at the time of the murders. Then we find right opposite in 17 Pisces 08 Jose aligned exactly with Lucia her little dog at 17 Vi 10., and Josephina not far away in 22 Pi 36. Then Meges at 13 Pi 44 and Megaira in the same place at 14 Pi 14 with ArmandHammer, 13 Pi 52. Years before all this, on two occasions he smashed ornaments in a department store; Ornamenta is also on the axis at 18 Vi 12, Pounds (for both the expense and the pounding he gave them) at 18 Vi 56, and Siva too at 17 Vi 09. This last is a mere 9 mins of arc from asteroid Zomba; people high on a fix are often said to behave "like zombies", like the living dead who have no awareness of either their actions or their consequences, and the way this pattern is building up suggests that this man is extremely likely to have carried out these dreadful crimes in a state that left him with a total amnesia in respect of that day in his life. Even those names which aren't on the killer axis connect to it: Russell at 21 Leo 18 is the sidereal position of 15 Virgo 29, the Lane in which the events took place conjoins this at 21 Leo 34 (15 Vi 45), and his mother's Janequeo, 23 Leo 16, relates in the same way to 17 Vi 27. So, all the asteroids on the Virgo-Pisces axis line up with the last three from their sidereal positions in Leo. Even LindaSusan is tied in from 16 Libra 08, as this is the antiscion of 13 Virgo 52, Meg's degree axis. Both died. Lina, 14 Aries 55, is antiscion to 15 Pisces 05. Time in penal institutions is aptly described by Purgathofer, 16 Pisces 24. Finally we have direct alignments with his Gemini Sun: the name he took early in life, David (18 Sag 57) conjunct his erstwhile partner in crime Johnny (20 Sag 11) aligned with Coco for the cocaine habit (19 Gemini 31) and Couteau (knife) with which he attacked at least one friend (15 Gemini 10). I defy anyone to look at this lot and dismiss it all as mere coincidence. Not only are all the correct ideas linked to Stone through the cross to his Gemini Sun, but intimately to the very same ideas on the very same axis at the time of the murders 38 years later. (Just as the same ideas turned up on the same axis between Diana's birth and tragic death.) (3) Solar Fire 4 allows direct adjustment of both MC and ASC in rectifying a chart, so it was very soon that a plausible birth-time turned up, 7h00 am, giving this pallid, insecure, volatile young man a mid_Cancer ASC, the lonely, potentially anti-social Capricorn Saturn setting, and the crucial mid-Pisces/Virgo on the Meridian close to the Moon's Nodes. The Sun is at home in institutional House 12, and the Moon-Neptune conjunction in 5th which fits his mother's dominant sex-life and unreliability, and his own self-gratifiying flight from reality through recreational drug use. The Moon at this birth-time falls in 14 Scorpio conjunct Antares; this usually highlights the proper use or the abuse of power. Sidereally it is right opposite tropical Mars from 20 Libra. And the draconic Moon goes to 23 Taurus next to the sidereal Sun at Taurus 22. In July 1998 Michael Stone's Solar Arc Mars was in 24 Taurus and on the Desc of the murder chart - so this is looking pretty convincing, especially bearing in mind that he had been experiencing a rising tide of aggression within himself for quite a long time before the murders took place. When the helio chart is added, another jigsaw piece falls into place, for not only do we have an Aries Mars in coelo squaring the Asc/Desc and Saturn (typical of a person who feels threatened and lashes out at the world for want of self-awareness and self-control) but also now helio Mars in 12 Pisces 44, squaring Earth, conjunct the MC! (4) The acid test is to progress and return this chart to the summer of 1996. The Solar Return, 6/6/96 at 23h52 for Gillingham, Kent where he was living, is very satisfying indeed. Mars, in 25Taurus56 (so close to draconic Moon etc!) is conjunct the IC with Mercury the Sun-ruler. Pluto is bang on the Midheaven. And the Moon itself has swung into a strong T-square with this violent axis from 26 Aquarius. Neptune trines the Mercury/Mars from the Capricorn Asc ... easy to feel powerful if you are out of your head on a cocktail of illegal and prescription drugs. This year's return finds the Nodes across the horizon, a conjunction of Moon/Chiron in Scorpio on his natal Moon in the 3rd squaring Uranus, that 24 Taurus/Scorpio axis on the meridian, and a high-profile trio of Sun/Mercury/Mars (what else?) in the 10th. On his birthday, p.Moon was conjunct S.Node r. in Pisces. By July 9th, the Moon had moved into alignment with the converse conjunction of S.Node and Mars. P.Mars was closing a square to natal Uranus and trine the setting Saturn r. The daily progressions for 9th July give an exact conjunction of Puto/Asc and the DPMC at 26 Taurus! The daily converse Asc is close to radix Mars and square conv. Saturn. Stone's converse Sun at 11 Taurus was joined by the transiting Moon opposite the midpoint of that natal Moon/Neptune. Chase The Dragon...!!! What seems less satisfactory is that the Birthday p. angles are not contributing to this otherwise vivid picture. However, when the full progressed Interdimensional wheel is set up we find what we should: p. draconic MC con. p. Tropical Neptune, p.Sidereal Mars con. p.Tropical MC, and P. Sidereal Pluto con. p.Tropical Asc. Michael Stone becomes globally, historically angry. Then, having found that he had a Draconic Solar Return on June 30th at 11h57 am with a nasty T-square of Sun/Saturn/Chiron and the Nodes, Moon near the IC close to natal Trop. Sun, and Mars not far from the MC - a new thought - what if one was supposed to set up 'annual' draconic progressions for the date/time of the Draconic Solar Return? Having never tried this, there was no time like the present! ............ and Lo! there is Return Mars e.conj. progressed Mars conj. p.MC; Return Asc and p. Asc conj. Pluto; converse Asc at 14 Taurus opposite conv. Neptune, on natal tropical Moon/Antares, converse MC a couple of degrees from Return Uranus. (5) So there we are. This looks like Michael Stone, and it still looks like a guilty Michael Stone, however many lies may have been told in court. I rest my case. You can be the Jury. God Bless, pray for this disturbed man, Pam. ............................................................................................................ December 1998 / January 1999 Greetings, everyone! Happy Eclipse Year! First, a plea. I am collecting an assortment of email addresses for some of you, and to avoid the embarrassment of possible overload, ie Small Worlds in Triplicate!... may I have an up-date from those of you who have two or more active addresses, letting me know which one is the appropriate mailbox for Small World. Some of you will be receiving this as a sample issue, and again I would be grateful if you too would update me in the same way (as well as letting me know if you would like to stay on the list of regular monthly subscribers - this is a free magazine.) Next, an apology: there has been no Small World since the November issue, as yours truly was getting an in-depth, lungs-on intro to T.Saturn-Neptune=natal Sun which wiped out any hope of intellectual effort more ambitious than grinning weakly out of my pillows at the glorious idiocies of "I'm Sorry, I Haven't a Clue!" on Radio 4 and keeping up with The Archers. (Overseas readers - you don't know what you're missing!!!). Therefore there was no Christmas to speak of in this corner of Ospringe, either side of Midnight Mass (again overheard from bed), and nothing in any case to speak of it with as all carolling and conversation perforce ceased! So what is Christmas all about, then? On the strength (?) of this recent, locally dismal festival, one thing I have forcibly realised is that you get out of Christmas precisely what you put into it, plus interest. Cards had already flooded lovingly out; and cards duly flooded lovingly in. That was really nice. But that was "the run-up to Christmas" - or, as it used to be known in our purportedly Christian country, Advent. Come the 24th\25th\26th December with all those friendly cards still stacked on a table, no tree up, no pretty lights, baubles, tinsel delighting the glance, no crowding in the cold to warm our communal hearts with carols, no lovely invading smells of Christmas cooking, no voice to answer the phone, and only a lot of mainly bad TV to mark the occasion, we were marooned on a festive desert island. This is when you realise how much these little things matter, even when it all seems like too much hard work. And is it the Solstice? Saturnalia? the birthday of our Lord Jesus Christ? This last has of course become a bit of a problem for me, now that it is so clearly May 7th, 5BC whose sunset saw the entry of Jesus into the world and into human history. It is a struggle to relate all this lovely stuff in December to the reality of a mid-spring Nativity. So I figure that if our monarch can have a real birthday (in April) and an official birthday (in June), then why not Jesus? ... and let us be honest about the real and ancient origins of the Solstice celebration that warms and brightens the dark, brief Winter days. PLUTO HAS FUN IN SAGITTARIUS! The burier of Treasure bounded up from his murky abodes in Scorpio to the rich lands of Sagittarius two days before my 1995 birthday, and ever since he has been tearing the wrappers off all the goodies he can lay his sticky hands on! God The evidence is all over the Media (as usual) - it's Power To The Purple!... as men of the cloth escape their churches and do probing pieces to camera; or less happily get outed for nasty goings-on behind the vestry. Attempts to banish or debase the "God Slot" have failed dramatically as spirituality and religion in all their forms find their way into soap operas, documentaries, plays and late-night discussions. Tonight's offering on BBC1 wasn't content with a crusading journalist and the battle for Laura Norder - it had to invoke the dangerous concept of Conscience, spiced with (!) notions of absolute right and wrong, soul, personal responsibility, redemption. Phew! The politically-correct, the anti-judgmental, anxiety-ridden relativists will be sweating cobs. What? Moral values? Higher Law? God? Mea culpa, not the System's or my disfunctional family's? In another corner of the media, the biggest row about the Millennium Dome at Greenwich has been the threatened paucity of actual Christian input into the "Spirit Zone", as if Jesus' impact on 2000 years of civilisation had nothing to do with the inspiration to invent AD and kick_start a whole new dating system. Those in denial like to call it CE. My calendar will always carry an AD for Jesus! (And I say, what a waste of a twelve-section circle, to admit no astrology to the Dome. Anyone up for guerilla artwork?) Weather The god's own artwork has shown a marked preference for watercolour wash of late. Jupiter Pluvius, at home again in soggy Pisces after 12 years absence, freed from alien restraints in reckless liaison with Pluto, has been re-working some major landscapes and wiping out generations of humble human endeavour. Prophecy has flourished, and much of it warned of storms and massive floods with appalling loss of life. Well, in 1998 they got it right. It never rained but it poured. The devastation in Central America, China and Bangladesh beggars belief, and even the lesser torrents in Italy, the UK and elsewhere have been costly and tragic. Horses On a much more positive note, I know a lot of you will insist that the afore-mentioned Pisces is the home of horseflesh; but Centaurs are half-horses, and how can we ignore this wonderful, galloping movement to retrain the trainers, to become Horse-Whisperers? All power to Robert Redford, who starred in the e-pony-mous film, with his 9th-house Jupiter (ruler of Pisces ASC and Sag. MC) aligned closely to a wonderful Draconic trio of Moon, Mercury, Neptune in Sag. all square Draconic Saturn in Pisces! How's that for a sweet hippophile doing and sharing far and wide a quiet, sensitive communion he deeply believes in? Greed But, Hey!, Sag. Rules The World now, and under ZEITGEIST - OPTIONS - DEFAULTS - has deselected Tact, Subtlety, Restraint. High on excitement, we mistake Quantity for Quality. And what can't we get enough of? Obviously food. There are probably more cookery programs seasoning the ether than at any time in the history of broadcasting. The other thing we can't get enough of is our photogenic little selves, and the TV companies are rubbing their hands in glee at our collective willingness to provide hours and hours of ! unpaid ! entertainment and a ratings bonanza to dream of. Pluto in Sag means everyone can be funny, everyone can be famous; anyone can, by fulfilling their bi-weekly duty to the National Lottery and the Futures Market, be incredibly rich; and the airlines sell their souls to litter the empty places of the globe with the insatiable overspill from a thousand playas and National Parks. We all have a right to experience the wilderness, after all. For we all, every one of us, of the millions of us, have the human right to do just what we want, whenever we want, whatever the cost to ourselves, to each other, to social cohesion, to the health of the world. Don't we? More than ever before, in a glut of opportunity, it is my health, my wealth, my happiness that must come first. We of the First World are in a feeding frenzy that continues 24 hours a day. Our collective eyes are bigger than our bulimic tummy. We devour fat, sugar, glamour, time, sensation, ideas, applause, fashion, booze, images, distance, flattery, facts, publicity, drugs, noise, opinion, novelty, fun (everything once dignified now has to be 'accessible' and therefore Fun) wanting it all, wanting it now, impatient of the gentle disciplines that make all true freedoms really possible. On the 26th of January 2008, Pluto will follow Jupiter into Capricorn. Will there still be a cornucopia for us, I wonder? or will the poor and the meek at last inherit the earth? Answers, please, on a postage stamp. Nudity Frankly, the wraps are off everything and everybody as computers peel the skin away from pulsing communities of phages and platelets. Inner-space and outer-space yielded secret after secret as Pluto ground through Scorpio, and now all is displayed for our edification and great entertainment. Other people don't have to do the exploring for us any more - WE are the explorers! we have the WWWeb, and we have the WWWorld!!! The skin-flick has gone upmarket: the highbrows at BBC2 and Channel 4 have found every excuse to expose kilos of unprotected human flesh to our voyeuristic gaze as nakedness is irretrievably in, modesty out in an autumn of deciduous figleaves, and honesty is far sexier than sin (vide all Clinton videos.) Male strippers are wildly popular over here in the UK clubs, and make great box-office too (not that I've seen The Full Monty yet - but then I'm happily married...and yes, my Saggy husband and I with my Saggy Mars once belonged to a Sun Club - until everything got just a bit too Saggy...). We have never been privy to so many televised Closets, nor had to endure so much public puking, mooning, and wind. Letting it all hang out is now considered cool ... D.V., with a bit of Saggy luck it'll end embarrassingly in hypothermia. ENOUGH OF ALL THAT - HAVE YOU TRIED THIS? I love Solar Fire. So many adventurous astrologers have thrown their ideas and experience into its files thanks to the enterprise and skill of Esoteric Technologies, Astrolabe, and numerous enthusiastic ambassadors, that no matter how well-used it is, there is always something left waiting to spring a surprise. This happened (again) to me the other week and kept me so engrossed we nearly didn't eat that evening! What had I found this time? The Lunar Phase Returns. There they were, looking at me, untouched, untried, in the Lunations menu; so experimentally I keyed in returns for my resident Sag. around the date I went into the Kent & Canterbury for a nearly life-threatening (but in fact life-saving) op. on some of my delicate bits, back in October 1989. There were three worth a look - 6th September (included the op.), 6th October (post-op and convalescence), 4th November (coping again, so he could fly off to Oklahoma and check out our new Liberal Catholic Bishops. Born Twice The whole point of this was to see how these patterns differed, according to the natal birth time. Because - as some of you may already know - Gerard James Crane of Blackburn, England, was born twice. According to his ancient mother (nearly 99 now, and surely destined to outlive us all) when she was lucid enough to remember, Gerard's head emerged into the family bedroom "at midnight" on 15th December 1931, but got lethally stuck like Pooh in the Rabbit-hole for no less than seven hours, tied to his mother and strangling with the umbilicus wound round his neck. The arrival of a midwife at "quarter past seven" that morning saved both their lives, cord cut, baby freed, lungs filling properly for the first time. Now, ever since we met back in 1977 I have worked with a rectified chart of 07h12, Libra MC, early Sag. rising, and T. Pluto right there right now! But the aptness of a Virgo Ascendant has always nagged at me, and from time to time I would have another go at a "midnight" chart, only to end up frustrated with no way of choosing between the two. Clearly the head's emergence was a real birth, even if partial. A chart for 00h35 sat in my files for years, graphically describing a man whose favourite maxims (unaccountable from anything else anywhere in his chart) are "They don't make diamonds as big as bricks", "I'm only little!", "a man has no rights, only debts" (S.Node in 1 Libra conjunct 29 Virgo ASC.) Added to which, the draconic Moon actually changed signs back to Aquarius, to join his mother's Sun. But which was the dominant chart? That for the tied man (the prisoner of his commitments) or the free man? Problem solved! I wish I could show you these phase returns! They settled this 21-year conundrum once and for all. The first has a Scorpio Moon angular in house 12, with Mars and MC on my own ASC: his wife is undergoing surgery in hospital. The second has the Moon conj. his own Sag. Sun at the IC - with him at home again - but Uranus, Saturn and Neptune in 4th upset all normal domestic arrangements, and Mercury in Virgo rising close to his ASC ensure he is kept busy doing all the little things for his wife that she would usually do for him. The third is a peach! - N.Node on his Jupiter axis is in 9th, so off he goes to Tulsa to meet spiritually congenial folk (Neptune, Uranus setting) and have a simply wonderful and transformative time with a quartet in the 5th of Sun, Pluto, Mercury and Mars. Where am I? There's Saturn, in Capricorn, smack on the 7th, and Capricorn Moon in the same house, leaving his wife to cope alone - very carefully, very slowly, very capably! And with Jupiter rising, what does he become in the process but the bishop-elect for the church in England! Spot on. Needless to say, many more such charts were run, and overall the dominance of the Virgo rising chart was confirmed. Which is very interesting indeed, as it means the birth of the head and exposure of the eyes and fontanelle to light and ambient frequencies is at least as important as the cut cord, the first breath and the first cry. And yet... Thinking about the Free Man - on February 22nd 1993 he was given the honorary Freedom of the City of London. How would that be reflected by the two births? My hunch was that only the 07h12 chart would have anything to say - and I was right! both returns fell on January 29th, with lovely trines from Sun and Mercury to Jupiter; but the second birth put the Nodes and his Sun on the Meridian. A further check suggested itself , using the Lunar returns; these actually fell the day before, at a new moon, either in the 7th or the 11th. The key here was the pair of asteroids "Jack London" and "Freeman" - only in the second Lunar Return chart did they register as they should, with "Jack London" near the 7th, but "Freeman" firmly, tightly conjunct the IC! LITTLE THINGS THAT MEAN A LOT These tiny asteroids are a wonderful way to show the unbeliever the descriptive accuracy of astrology. Mark Pottenger's latest delivery on his updated CD included the newly-named MadreTeresa. Where else to apply it but the chart of this remarkable, feisty and saintly woman? She was born on August 27th 1910 at 14h25 CET in Skopje, Macedonia (Yugoslavia). Her Draconic chart is the dominant, with its mothering Cancer Sun and tough-as-they-come Scorpio rising. The Tropical position of "MadreTeresa" is 1 Taurus 01, right on her draconic Descendant, its horizon position simultaneously identifying her and indicating her own identification with every one of those in her care. In the next package, amongst other goodies will come asteroid "Martin Luther"; we already have "Martina" and "Luthera", and it's going to be fascinating checking out the accuracy of the chart for Martin Luther King - as well as the first Martin Luther if Mark is able to supply the elements to type into "Dance of the Planets" and run back to the 15th century. - Like the dwads, for example! I had a client a few days ago who was having difficulty opening up to her nearest and dearest, and found that at work her colleagues considered her somewhat forbidding. To the astrological eye this hardly came as a surprise, given the overgenerous serving of Scorpio, Capricorn, Saturn, Pluto and Mars in her very capable pattern! But on the phone she was free, expressive, honest, good_humoured, generous of spirit, and far from the chilly, silent, controlling woman whom her husband had recently divorced. It struck me forcibly that here was the perfect example of the Dwad in action. Ever since I started working with the precise Dwad - 12 tiny signs mapped onto the Decans in each sign, with each planet and angle given its exact position - it has proved itself over and over again to finger-print the individuality, through its own elemental energies, its integral geometry, and its contacts back to the radix chart. So clearly does it reflect the invisible, mental life, that I have come to think of it as "the Idea behind the Form". My client, in stark contrast to her radix nativity, had a dwad rich in Sagittarius and Aquarius; her spontaneity, wisdom and freedom of spirit flowed through every word of that long conversation. What I was meeting audibly but invisibly was her mind, her thinking, her idea of herself and her life. Applying that to my now Virgo-rising husband, he collects dwad Sun, dwad Ascendant and radix Jupiter all together in late Leo in his 11th. And what is he? How does he identify himself? What governs all of his thinking? His authoritative position as Bishop, and the hundreds, maybe thousands of social contacts he has made and lovingly maintains through both the church and Masonry. (And he's getting very creative on his PC!!!) Believe me, if you haven't included dwads in your work as yet, you are in for such an adventure! Astrology ceases to be a language of generalities and moves nearer and nearer to the highly specific - with which one can begin to offer the kind of repeatable patterns that for many necessarily constitute "proof". New Year, new astrology! Yes? and finally ... One last tantalising titbit _ the current Labour government announced recently that it will hold the next General Election on May 4th 2000! Now, did they decide this all by themselves, or has one of you out there been whispering in a Westminster ear about epochal New Moons and stellia in Taurus? It is mighty close to Tony Blair's birthday - but more to the point it is the actual Solar Return of Jesus, His chart configured by everything in that Thursday sky. How tempting it is to expect spiritual drama! But if we ask for help in choosing wisely, some blessing may be His birthday gift to us. May Joy be with you! Pam ............................................................................................................ February 1999 Greetings, planetoidal friends! ... what do we call ourselves, we Small-Worlders? Suggestions please, as inventive as you like! This is going out via the new AOL4.01; at last we have an alphabetised address list and much less faffing about to edit things. Also we can put pictures in our email like the beautiful blue world now heading your bulletin, and this lovely tree, all green and summery and perfect for teaching the ramifications of Interdimensional astrology! But those of you without similarly graphic email won't see it. It will still be dreary winter. Ah me! No weddings, but a Funeral. A lot has happened here since the New Year issue. Most significantly, Gerard's old mother has died at nearly 99 ( born on Valentine's day 1900.) We were with her all the previous evening; she passed peacefully into the arms of the angels at 05h45 on January 17th in the Herne Bay convent, exactly six years and 5.5 hours after the passing of my father. He and I shared a south Node on her Sun... At that moment, the Mars/Saturn opposition was exactly up and down the Meridian; and Gerard's Sun-degree was rising. For the second time in my life I spent my birthday making the rounds of doctors, undertakers, registrars etc at a Kent seaside town. My own chart has "Seaborg" conjunct the Sun (with my familiar name, "Pamjones"); it actually does mean "a town by the sea." And while we're on the subject, hugging my 17 Sag. IC from 16 and 21 Sag are the two asteroids for my home here in Faversham, an old brewing town - "Brewington" and "Feuerbach"! (Faversham means fire- or fever- town. Gunpowder was milled here for generations; and people's health suffered when the creek was less savoury than now!) omygodthisisamazing ... I've just thought to check out "gun" asteroids as well, and there's "Gunlo(a)d" at the IC snug up against "Feuerbach" at Sag 21!!! And my father was a salesman all his life. Right on my Desc at 20 Pisces (etc!) is "Repsolda" (get it?) and at the IC again in 18 Sag is "Mercator" (the merchant.) The fact that I went on to become an antique map colourist in my 20s and now a huge fan of SolarMaps is also connected - through the Mercator projection - and his name was Gerardus! You still haven't bought your asteroids? ...but back to Mother... I have learned a lot of good astrology from her passing already. We have never known her birth time, for obvious reasons, and this was an opportunity to discover if it was possible to rectify the chart at all. For the first time, too, we had access to documents - Mother's marriage certificate, the date of her husband's death, the record of vaccination prior to her first flight overseas. You will remember the success we had with the "Q" charts, and my recent (belated!) discovery of the Lunar phase returns; applying the knowledge of the way these work, more graphically describing events and relationships in a life than almost anything else, I started by checking 14/2/1900 for the four times when Saturn was on an angle during the day of James Crane's passing in Blackburn. This happened at 02h30, 10h45, 19h00 and 22h43. As it closed an opposition to the Moon towards the latter end of the day, the two later times were favourite, even though experience had shown me that all four were real possibilities for a natal birth-time, according to the rules of Quotidians. To cut a long story very short, all four times were re-checked against family charts and other known and dated events to see which consistently threw up the correctly descriptive planet(s) on angles. There was in the end no contest: my first favourite, 19h00 (now tweaked to 19h05) won easily, and proved itself finally by collecting the right asteroids on its angles as well as working vividly when all its dimensions were plotted. Her natal full moon in draconic straddled the tropical meridian - draco Moon at the IC, home, family and roots her entire focus, and greatly constrained by the conjunction from Sidereal Saturn that obliged her like so many other Lancashire mothers to go out to work to support the family, hard up as they were. Here indeed was one of the last of the old Lancashire "Weavers", named "Anna", nee "Morando",married to "James", with sons "Gerarda" and "Johnson". Definitely destined for life in "Rockwell Kent" at "St. Peter's" convent. Closely related to a "Pamina". Her life filled with her love of singing and dancing... "Orpheus", "Chant", "Dancey", "Terpsichore" ( Draconic Sun in Gemini on the MC came out whenever she had the chance to perform; she adored being the centre of attention!) All align directly with Sun or angles either in coelo or across dimensions. And the Lunar phase returns prior to known events also confirmed this evening birth through their clarity of description. So do the Solar Arcs and progressions, checked last of all. So I am now feeling very confident that we can realistically offer rectification to people whose times of birth are quite unknown. This approach has worked exceptionally well on Mother's chart, and of course on Gerard's (as related in the last Small World.) If you haven't tried these techniques do have a crack at some of your real challenges with them and see if you don't get somewhere at last! Dwads in Transit Another spin-off has been the amazing activity in the transiting dwad. I knew transits to natal tropical dwad positions were powerful - vide my friend who lost half her family when T Saturn hit her dwad Sun at the same time as her husband's radical Sun opposite. Checking the faithful Raphael over breakfast, I found to my utter astonishment that on the morning Mother left us, these rapidly-moving positions had almost precisely placed Pluto on my p.Sun, Uranus opposite Gerard's natal Sun, and last but by no means least, Saturn on Mother's Sun, backing up the current eclipses. This is important; these are, again, direct alignments, which you would not find if you only fine-tuned into the 12th harmonic. The dwad, mapping as it does onto the same framework as the decanates, is a very special layer of energetic information. Interdimensional Horary?!? Cries of HERESY! do I hear? Of course horary works beautifully and simply by its well-tried and ancient rules. Yesterday a friend asked me, at a gathering in his house overlooking Faversham Creek, whether he should go out and buy a very tasty, gleaming, ex-demo company car that was on offer at a local showroom. Aha, this is a horary question! I cried gleefully, and come the evening I got on with it. Well, there was this meeting of querent and quesited in the 11th house gathering, and there was the awful closing T-square between the querent and the significator of the coveted car, full of Neptunian nasties in the 8th house. I rang him. "Er - I don't do many of these", I said, "But I would be careful! It looks as if it may not be all it's cracked up to be. Someone may be trying to rip you off in some way." Brief silence, then "You are brilliant!" "No" I explained, "astrology's brilliant. But - why?" "Because I looked it up on the Web, and they are asking over £2000 more than it's worth." OK. Today he'll have made up his mind one way or the other, and I haven't heard yet. But the point is that if you add the draconic and sidereal levels to this pattern (13h54 GMT 24th January 1999) they show you what the question is about. Draco Mercury is close to the tropical IC, and sidereal Mercury close to the tropical Desc - with Neptune, the misleader! 2 degrees from the Sun. So all that radix 8th house Sun Neptune Mercury stuff goes onto the sidereal, public, angle. He would have had the car for work and work would be paying for it. But all that was being squared by the opposition of Moon/Saturn/Mars, in turn lined up with the draconic MC/IC. The dwad of the querent's significator, the Moon, is conjunct his Sun, identifying him exactly; the dwad of the Asc itself is exactly conjunct the IC, showing that the querent is in his own home. Then there are the asteroids. Remember when we had our scary old well inspected in the summer? And the house name etc kept appearing in all the appropriate places? Well - here we go again. "LeCar" is rising, and draconic "Urania" conj. Chiron, opposite "Rhoads", "Ernestina" (his name in drag!), and that sidereal solar trio which now includes "Pamjones". So, in the frame, so to speak, is an encounter between Ernest and his astrologer friend Pam regarding a road vehicle. Squaring the axis from the draco IC and sid. "Feuerbach"/Moon/Saturn is "Autonoma", opposite Mars. He's all keen, she's going to wax cautious over this auto! "Carr" is opp. Mercury. Money is heavily at issue, as that fidgety Mars is also conjunct "Pounds" in coelo, and "Mony" is at the MC ... with "Maritima", too, adding to the location of the question. From the wider field of the sidereal, this same MC/"Mony"/"Maritima" lines up beautifully with tropical Sun/ Pamjones/ Chemin (on the road again...)/"Riverside" (the creek)/and Neptune opposite "Carmen", draco "Pamina" and sid. IC. Twice more the location is spelt out: "Brewington" on the draconic Desc, and "Feuerbach" on the sidereal Desc. Howzat? But the question still got answered without them. Glorious stuff, this astrology. And a fleeting media event... Far more simply, at 16h20 gmt 14th January 1999 there was an interview on BBC Radio 4 with a man who was challenging Esperanto with his own polyglot language, "Europanto". It was only a short slot - little more than a few soundbites - but draconic "Zamenhof" conj. "Europa" was setting on the Desc. with the tropical Sun and Sidereal S. Node. The draconic is here very active: in its dwad we find "Zamenhof" also with the MC, and "Europa" only 1' of arc from the Sun. Interestingly, the helio sidereal "Esperanto" (the highest level humanly conceivable, touching the cosmic) is on the tropical MC in late Pisces almost exactly squaring helio tropical "Europa". Remember that where draconic is active, we have spiritual vocation coming into play, karmic obligation, group commitment etc, and with the sidereal a public, social, and/or historic function. Alas, Poor Pluto! ...who is being demoted from full planetary status if a world-wide-web-wide poll of astronomers so decree. "PLUTO TO LOSE ITS STAR-DOM" cried the headline in the Observer of January 17th under a photo of Clyde Tombaugh its discoverer and a very fetching impression of how the Pluto-Charon system must look to a passing ufo. "Planet's fall is curtains for Clinton, say astrologers", claimed the sub_heading, having got its messages mixed as usual, quoting several of our most eminent over_succinctly and I suspect sadly out of context, since Nick Campion mentions "Neptune's Presence", and - correct me please if I'm wrong, Nick - this sounds more like a comment on the changed orbital status of the two outer planets, Neptune having taken over as outermost for a celestial while. Well, good old Pluto is as active as ever. Look what it's doing to the sorely-tried England Football Coach, Glen Hoddle! (now alas, writing at 22h45 on 2/2/99, ex-Coach.) For those of you far from these shores and out of touch with these more provincial matters, the balloon went up on Sunday last under that agonising T-square of Mars/Saturn/Neptune joined by the Aries Moon. He had been so bold as to give an interview to the Sunday Times in which he attempted to explain to a self-righteous generation weaned on Thatcherite materialism, slavish political correctness and half-digested egalitarianism the concepts of Karma and reincarnation. Accordingly, the imperfectly-worded examples he offered were efficiently misinterpreted by all the media and gravely affronted those high of profile who claimed to speak for the disabled community. Press and TV have descended like piranhas on the poor man, who has struggled defiantly on with hardly any support, reluctant to resign, and insistent that his views have been totally misrepresented. He's just an ordinary guy. He has no academic or rhetorical skills. He is straining to express ideas that are difficult enough even for the learned and fluent; and in a dreadfully hostile climate. Eventually I tracked down his birthdate (no time/place yet) to October 27th 1947, where we find asteroid Karma tucked between Venus and Chiron in mid-Scorpio (opposite Jesus' Sun) square a tight cluster of Mars/Pluto, Renate (re-born) and NewMan. All these are already under fire from transiting Uranus, and the sidereal transits of Pluto are hauling previously private beliefs painfully out into the public domain. More bits of data: A most encouraging report on breakthroughs in research into Homoeopathy was broadcast on BBC radio on January 28th 1999 at 07h45 gmt; it seems that in Utrecht the signal of a potentised substance has been recognised as remaining in the water, and in LA succussed water has been shown to develop solid-like structures. All of which points insistently to very advanced physics, where to my mind the possible answers have always potentially awaited us. The potentised astrology of the Dwad and Asteroids triumphs again! For Ultrajectum, the old Latin name for the city of Utrecht, sets opposite the rising AquarianSun (in a lovely angular procession of Neptune, Mercury, Asc, Sun, Uranus), Angelina - for Los Angeles - is tightly conjunct the Sun, and to describe the academic work on homeopathic signatures left in resonant magnetic fields we have the dwads of Academia, Signe and Bach lined up tidily with radix Magnitka, Herzen and the Moon across 27-28-29 Gemini-Sagittarius. The UK media were less than helpful with the shocking Earthquake in Colombia (confusingly, in Armenia!) on January 25th '99; so I chased up the US government website (www.neic.cr.usgs.gov/neis/bulletin/99-EVENTS/) and was given precise time and epicentre coordinates: 18h19m17s UT, at 4.29 N, 75.68 W. NB!!! these are decimal coordinates and need converting. This is what I have: 04N17 24, 075W40 48. You can see how close it was to the city - pretty well right underneath it. Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys_Jones announced their formal engagement at 10h00 am gmt on January 6th '99 - now, was it in London? I forget. Bother. I have been collecting birth-dates of people who lost their lives in the Lockerbie tragedy, whenever visible on screen. Does anyone have access to a full, dated list? In the October'98 Small World, there was a longish piece on the murder of Lin and Megan Russell. With the fresh asteroids from Mark Pottenger, we have two more crucial names - Linda and Megantic. I have checked these against the charts of the last sighting and the possible time of the attack, adding for good measure Megaira and Hack. Once again, the names are found in the same sensitive area of mid-Virgo: draconic Linda (16 virgo 46)and Sidereal Megaira (15 virgo 41) on the tropical MC of the attack, sidereal Linda on the draconic MC of the attack, tropical Linda and draconic Megaira conjunct in 28 and 29 Pisces, sidereal Megantic at 9 virgo 22 on the MC of the last sighting and draconic Hack on the Asc at the same time. This is an extraordinary build_up, especially considering all that has been seen earlier. Journey Into Space! At 12h53 on February 4th '99 the News on ITN announced (to my intense glee) that the Russians had launched a Space Mirror from the MIR space station, and that the sun-reflecting sails had tangled in Mir's antennae, bringing their deployment to an abrupt halt. All the little hibernating beasties can breathe a little easier, including me, now that the threat to sweet sleep-inducing darkness has retreated at least for now. Why me? Because exactly six years ago on February 4th 1993 I woke at about 4 am remembering what I assumed was a vivid dream of the Sun coming out at night, yet surrounded by darkness more like a huge moon. At breakfast the news came through that there had been an experiment during the dark hours with a prototype space mirror, which had cast an uninvited cone of light across our somnolent latitudes, and appeared for all the world like a big bright moon. So - did I dream? Or was I out there? The interesting bit comes when we look at the patterns - six years ago, the asteroid Sunshine was at 20 Leo 22 right on the Chiron_Saturn opposition, trying ineffectually but annoyingly to overcome the Dark; this time Sunshine was at 20 Aquarius 56 - close to the Moon's S. Node! Forget it, folks; bad idea. Unhealthy to disrupt Nature's ancient rhythms! The long-anticipated international Space Station was launched from Cape Canaveral (28n24 20, 80W36 18) at 08h36 GMT on December 4th 1998 with all the hopefulness of the Draconic Moon/Venus/Jupiter T-square on the Tropical angles - but Saturn setting...! But maybe this was just the rocket? Earlier in December '98 - on the 10th - the Royal Society announced publicly the achievement of the first complete genome, that of the nematode worm, which apparently carries a number of the same muscle genes as we do. Back on October 1st '98 at 0h00 in London, Sky launched Digital Television on the already saturated viewing public. Guess what? Asteroid Skytel was in 11 Aries 08 right opposite Mercury, and the Moon in Aquarius in the 7th was tucked cosily between Uranus and the setting Neptune. Cancer rising heralds many TV dinners... While we're on the Media, the Internet crashed disastrously on July 17th 1997, at 02h30 (I assume EDT) through a fault somewhere in Virginia, USA. This info courtesy of BBC 2's recent, fascinating series on the Net's history in "Web.Dot.Com" that went on air from London at 19h30 on October 19th 1998. And still in the air, Frank Whittle - born 1st June 1907 - patented the Jet Engine on January 14th 1930. Its first (commercial?) flight was on May 15th 1941. Another technological snippet: Cartwright patented the Power Loom on April 24th 1743. Apropos of this, we're back to Gerard's mother again! She had all these ancient policies, including one taken out with the Blackburn & District Power Loom, Winders, Warpers and Weavers Association. Which is utterly extinct. We have spent hours on the phone and letter-writing just to see if there is the faintest trace, but even the Rechabites couldn't find it! So much for the famous Lancashire cotton industry. It has gone the way of the Dodo. A happier future was assured to Robert Towneley's experiment on Lancashire's Pendle Hill (of Witches fame!) on April 12th 1661: he set out successfully to measure rising and falling air pressure against its volume, and this led to "Boyles Law" of 1663. Regarding the time, I can at least assure you it was in daylight! And as you can get very lost and cold on Pendle if the weather goes haywire, and as it is a hefty climb up and down, it must have been toward the middle of the day. More sad farewells November 14th 1935 saw the birth in Jordan of one of this century's great men, king of that pivotal land since his succession on August 12th 1952. At 11h43 EET on February 7th 1999 in Amman, amid desperate grief, that quiet striver for world peace left his body for the higher Light. The next day (at 11h45 local time, and then 13h45 at the Palace) saw the greatest gathering of world leaders - politicians, royalty, enduring friends, old enemies - that may ever have been seen, as the nations paid their last respects to King Hussein, a man not only respected but loved. Three days before he died, my local paper ran a full-page spread on his previous marriage to Antoinette Gardiner from Bridge, near Canterbury; she became Queen Muna, and is now the mother of the new King of Jordan, Abdullah. Only last year, friends of ours with their new-born son had stayed at the Palace, invited by one of the King's British staff. They too will be mourning. Even closer to home, one week after Gerard's old mother passed on we were shocked to read in our local paper that our dear friend, who had been Faversham's Roman Catholic priest until his posting to Aberdeen a few years ago, had dropped dead at the altar in the University chapel ... while lighting candles for the Mass he would have been saying for Mother. He had written to us just three days earlier, saying that, God Willing, this was his intention for Sunday January 24th. God's will was otherwise, to take his shiny soul back home. So, two days before Mother's funeral, we found ourselves burying someone else we loved among many mourners at Aylesford Priory. Fr. Frank Crossan was a very private man, so I shall not publish his birth-data, only say that by the time we arrived, we had no choice of seats, and by one of those wonderful cosmic arrangements I found myself sitting next to a lady from Aberdeen who knew what time his death had occurred - and immediately in front of the only local Roman Catholic astrologer I know!!! And I must add that once again the Q-charts we looked at a short while back added depth to the astrological picture: for at Fr. Frank's clock birthtime on his death day, the CQ, the transiting Mars_Saturn, square Neptune, lay right on the Meridian. "In the sight of the unwise they seem to die, and their departure is taken for misery and utter destruction..." "...but they are in Peace; for God created man to be immortal, and to be an image of His own eternity." ... and there in the true Q-chart, with matched zone-times, is Pluto on the Ascendant with its promise of not just a death, but a resurrection. Amidst all this, just to add to the emotional and mental turmoil, Gerard found the replacement car he desperately needed, and as it was very beautiful and we could just afford it with a lot of fiscal jiggery-pokery, he was thrilled to bits. So the past few weeks have been one of the most extraordinary psychological roller-coasters we have ever experienced, and amid relentless pressure. Guess who took her eyes off her transits? And guess where they turned up when she spent one bedtime catching up? No prizes - there it all was in the Draconic: for the duration of the worst of the switchback ride, transiting draconic Uranus bouncing over my tropical Asc and square Gerard's Sun. Finally, the Pisces Venus-Pluto Sag. square had a lot of fun in the Sunday Times last weekend (Feb.7th): "Genes turn love rats into 'mono-gamice'" - the release of oxytocin and vasopressin during bonding assures an addictive, jealous relationship with a single mate, and fiddling with the hormones can turn this on and off. Would that we could turn on and off our Venus-Plutos as easily!!! "Oprah walks out on 'death wish' television" _ though she had in fact just signed up for another 2 years... Data (from her to me via her research assistant by letter) January 29th 1954, 04h30 am CST, Kosciusko MS. ...No doubt about this chart at all. Everything interdimensionally is in place, describing her life and purpose, including the helio Mars tight to the MC in a painful t-square with Neptune, Chiron and Uranus; the deep trauma of early, prolonged abuse has coloured her whole life. "Making left hand music" - the announcement of the creation of the world's first left-handed piano by left-handed pianist Chris Seed, so that he could play Chopin properly! This is also generating brain research at Royal Holloway College. "The relationship that dare not speak its name" - no, not what that used to imply, but Marriage! which is under threat by political lies, lack of support, and politically-correct terror of upsetting anyone bringing children into a less tried and stable relationship ... Interesting and challenging article by Melanie Phillips. "Sugar in low-fat foods is hidden health threat" Hidden from whom? I learned all this in Biology at 15! How come the fact that too much carbohydrate (especially the fast-release, processed stuff) converts to sugars, and too much of any sugar in the system is then laid down as fat, is suddenly news? My God, the wheat and sugar barons must be powerful, to buy academic and medical silence for so many decades! Our poor kids. The stuff tastes so good they don't want to hear that they've been conned. Remember the sci-fi story "Soylent Green"? It's no different. As a society we'll do virtually anything, listen to any lie, pay any price to protect our delectable craving. So roll on Valentine's Day, roll on Easter! It's choccy time again! Bless you all, Pam ............................................................................................................ March 1999 Felicitations, friends! We have a new enterprise afoot this month: this coming Friday, March 12th, is the famous annual Comic Relief Day in the UK, when the world and its car dons a daft red nose, does silly walks, and generally shows off its Monty Python genes! Yesterday morning the founder of Comic Relief, Richard Curtis, was interviewed on Desert Island Discs (BBC Radio 4) and it struck me that it is but one small step from Comic to Cosmic, and why don't we do our bit for the fund-raising, as the astrological community? What I would love each of you to do if your willing and able, is to send me a modest donation that I can forward to Comic Relief with their customised Bank Slip; there is a field on the slip for the donor(s) to tell the organisers what it was that they did to raise the funds donated. This means not only making our contribution, but a decent little bit of PR to boot! Now, if you also want to send something idiotic, whimsical or side_splittingly funny in the way of a joke, story, JPEG cartoon file, poem, astrological project, or whatever for the next Small World, even better! My own effort is somewhat puny, but following this appeal I am offering a few bits and bobs of my own that haven't seen the light of day for years!... like this un-serious poem I wrote about the Beginning of Everything, and the extremely funny Creation story that follows it, that I was sent by a web-surfing friend! BIG BANG One day which never existed, God in solitary rage surprised Himself with a Thought so unsustainable in the here-to-fore He cracked the unflawed sheer shimmer of Monad in Equilibrium, He broke Mind mirrored in all directions, He shivered Infinity and the incorporeal mighty Hand that held it, thus beginning seven days of Bad Luck as Time was born in the vortex. Being God, Resourceful, He stretched forth His other hand upon the vortex, with an opposite charge - And Said: LET THERE BE LIGHT, and There Was light flashing from splinter to splinter, aeon to age; suns of a shattered hand blinked fire into and out of a myriad million dizzy reflections glinting Godhead back, curled time-shards reduplicating spin-drift, inkblot, starclot and coalsack _ by which light a God could see His scattered parts And Being God, He Said: LET THEM FLY Asunder upon the wind of My unparalleled Imagination, LET THEM SEED where a plus-minus meets in the heart of light a microcosmic god in the anti-mind, for this is Matter of Moment; let there be Life, therefore, so let there be Soul - let there be male, and female warring and mating; let there be holes for light to penetrate, dramatic poles, north and south in collision, upwards, down - as in My excess I find sorrow I cannot drown in the necessity for light to mend Me by, so will my Self, enantiomorphic twin of Me and friend be lover of that Light, his flesh a bandage for My fractured dignity for a seven-night. Till then, Let every action have its equal and opposite reaction. Let there be Polarity, pendulum, fractal, parabola And parity. Thus Spake God......... .........One Day that suddenly existed, as a myriad million fragments of Forever took their first lesson in strife and alchemy; towards which sex, war, succour, science and sainthood, the long, vain struggle to tie the strings of symphonies between grass and the galaxy, Caligula and Christ - So many poles of puzzlement, poor man-thing! - making itself slowly in God's other image, feet on a star, head in the coal-sack. God forgot to make men like snails. Here it is Sunday lunch And still we have not mapped our route for the last afternoon of our life; the future winks only briefly at us out of the healing mirrors. Some are struggling To put their eyes out on stalks and see around corners of the inconceivable before the last trump is played, the last supper indigested and the disbelievable unMichaelangelic Hand reach forth to converge the silver trails of the slow, vulnerable, visionary sun housing the soul in helix. Here they come, a few at a time, the unrejected cells; a Miracle is made. The Wound closes. Thy Hand, O God may close the eyes of Time - but it is built of us!... We who have put out the cat may be most unwilling to put out the stars the cat and we have hunted our dreams by, may be discontent; may fidget with the smoothed fabric of Space, finger the substance of the Maker's Dream, flex the muscles of a new idea - Spring a surprise. * >Subject: God, PC and the Creation > > >>The Creation >>In the beginning there was the computer. This begins with an apology for the conspicuous lack of overtly astrological content this issue - this is because I am in the middle of the Draconic Astrology book re-write, which will take me some weeks yet, and Small World should be it's normal self (apart from the bonus, DV, of your funny bits!) by April '99. And a bit of topical data: Date of Birth of King Abdullah of Jordan - 30th January 1962 in Amman. Mother - Queen Muna, nee Antoinette (Toni) Gardiner, from Bridge, near Canterbury, where her family ran a pub. The new King Abdullah had his 37th birthday on January 30th this year. This info came from one of the broadsheets on the day of King Hussein's funeral. God bless, have fun this week, Pam ............................................................................................................ April 1999 Retrospectively - Happy Easter Everyone! - and a warm welcome to the new subscribers. Well, I'm still working on the book, but the revisions and additions are nearly complete. So I can get your bulletin off to you roughly on time (I had no idea this would be a monthly event when I started over a year ago!) I nearly fell off my chair at breakfast two days ago - Mark Pottenger had sent me and the other Asteroid Faithful his April list, and there I was looking at a conjunction, so to speak, of "Crane" and "Warner", our own name suddenly Up There together with that of the close friend whom Gerard had ordained to the LCC Diaconate only a week before on Palm Sunday!!! This was the quickest order I ever placed - and Mark had responded within a day. He is such a good friend to us all. What I subsequently found made me chuckle - this happened on an intimate conjunction of "Pamela"/"Crane" in 13 -14 Pisces (opposite my draconic Mercury), sidereally 19-20 Aquarius (with the T. South Node), draconically 24 Libra - my draconic Desc., which in the context of asteroid phrases is just one end of the main Identity axis. For good measure, "Pamjones" is right there with them, adding weight to the viability of partial or mixed names; I was born with "Pamjones" exactly conjunct my Sun - and most folk call me Pam. Pamela is the formal bit! Formality comes with the professional self, and my brand new "Crane" has its Helio position (who I really am) on the Sidereal, public/ professional, MC opposite tropical Pamela, writing my full name there interdimensionally, as I have seen in so many nativities by now. More fun will be had with this. This wondrous Tale Of Woe by email from Mike Burns in Wales: "I'm currently trying to work my way through a Saturn + Neptune hard transit to my natal Moon. Not surprisingly, this weekend there's been a jackdaw (Saturn) down the chimney, squawking away behind our living room gas (Neptune) fire - so I called the gas people who eventually turned up - by that time the jackdaw had gone back up the chimney, just leaving half its nest behind, and the gas man then said - after disconnecting our fire to rescue the wretched bird - that he wasn't allowed to put the fire back again - we'd have to call and pay someone else to do that(Neptune? Saturn?)!!!!! Then the loo no longer flushes - need to replace the diaphram or something - so called our plumber - he has trouble with his eyes right now, but will come and show me how to do it!!!!! (plenty of scope for Neptune to have some fun with me there!); now the washing machine is playing tricks and won't spin; then when I climbed on the roof to place some wire mesh over the chimney, what did I find but a hole in the roof for rain to pour into! I'm sure you don't want to hear any more - but you can see that I'm having fun with this transit! Oh yes - and we were due to have some double glazing put in on the 26th March - on the day they rang up to say they had only just realised that they needed four men + scaffolding to do the job, and they only had two that day - so postponed until this coming Friday - then this week the firm's surveyor turned up - we thought to inspect some work done last year, which they should do according to their contract - but no! He had driven across half of Wales to inspect the work they should have done on the 26th March but hadn't, but will now do on the 8th.... (Neptune!). Pity no one told him! All the events I related led on to other situations, of a similar nature _ e.g. the day before the double-glazing was meant to be put in, we half-emptied the room concerned - our largest - with a hundreds, if not a couple of thousand, of my best books in it - and these, being ever so precious to me, were carried off to store in other rooms about the house (it took all day) - and of course I expected to be able to put them back again where they belong, in a couple of days. Well - they are still dispersed all over the show, and chaos reigns! " Our collective sympathies are with you, Mike! Anyone else out there want to unload? Salman Rushdie 19 Jun 1947, 02:19:27, IST _5:30 Bombay India 18N56 072E51 ... was given top billing in the Sunday Times of March 21st '99 (well - second only to the Julia-and-Hugh blurb, the free CD ROM, and somebody's bottom with a bag on it) : EYE SURGERY LIFTS SALMAN RUSHDIE'S BROODING LOOKS! Apparently the poor man suffered from a genetic defect that meant his lids got heavier and heavier until he literally had to hold them up with his fingers so that he could see. Transits for March reveal nothing dramatic of this kind - until you look at the Other Zodiacs. Lo! he was born (according to the above data) with Sidereal Pluto on his Cancer IC, lining up appropriately with the angular Mercury that has caused so much grief in recent years. And lo, again! Here is transiting Draconic Pluto back on the same spot (yes, you too can have a Pluto Return), helped by a sidereal transit of Uranus on his MC opposite, waving their joint wand like a couple of fairy godmothers to magic his gaze from seemingly malign to wide-eyed warmth. Well, what do you all think? Is he also a reformed writer? Will he manage to weave verbal spells from now on without wreaking spiritual havoc? Does the old adage, "You mustn't judge a book by its cover", hold true, or what is going on here in this karmic world where thoughts are things, and bodies are walking puns? I open it to the floor! GOING UP LIKE A LEAD BALLOON??? Breitling Orbiter had an intriguing launch. Would you have expected a lead balloon to lift off, let alone make the record books? Because at the time given on its website, 09h05 CET at Chateau d'Oex near Geneva on March 1st this year, Saturn was still on the horizon, with Neptune square it! And we have already seen how this incongenial pair can put the mockers on all the best-laid plans! The Sun was closing its exact square to Pluto as well, AND the Moon was void of course. Hmmmph. So much for conventional astrology. We might as well pack up now. Wait a minute, though - what's this I see? Jupiter rising? "Where, where?" you ask! If you will get out the trusty quad-wheel again and plot the full foursome thereon - tropical, draconic, sidereal, helio - then you will see the wonderful Aries-Libra alignment of Jupiter / Ascendant / Moon / Venus / Mars. It is the Sidereal ascendant at work, because this is an historic and very public event indeed, the stuff that the Sidereal is made of. It collects all the essential energy and gas of the helio (helium?!?) Jupiter-Mars opposition, the Tropical Jupiter_Venus for the delight and optimism of the adventure, and the draconic Aries Moon - which is all about enterprise and courage and winning races and getting lots of publicity. And with all that Jupiter, how could it fail? Saturn has to acknowledge that it's proper role is to ensure a steady and stately course from start to finish. For good measure, helio Mercury is happy in Gemini at the Sidereal IC, picking up draconic Mars for a nice strong lift-off. Even better is the cracking conjunction of draconic Asc with tropical Pluto in Sag., and draco MC on the tropical Leo Moon/Dragon's Head. This is an enterprise that is meant to succeed, and make a far more positive impact that all poor Richard Branson's plummeting balloons. Isn't it nice that the Dr. Piccard (not Jean_Luc alas) on board is the direct descendant of the famous ballooning Piccard! Therefore it is extra nice to see that at the time Orbiter actually completed its circuit and broke the world record (not its rather anti-climactic landing miles from anywhere) he MC was just about to meet Uranus in mid-Aquarius, and dynamically square this were asteroids "Pickard", "Britten" (Britain) and "Swissair". So was "Phaethon" whose chariot rather more disastrously wheeled round the sky, and up in the Midheaven was "NoEther" ... they came close to suffocation near journey's end! But most of the interviews (over here, anyway) were with the replacement crew member Brian Jones, very much the star of the show. No wonder! ... conjunct the Sun and Mercury is asteroid "Brian" tightly squared by "Jones" and "Starr"; completing this glowing picture is "Fama" opposite the Sun. I can't help wondering if an old Piccard is back seeing to unfinished business! That Was The News At Ten, and This Is Trevor MacDonald -Goodnight! Last month on 5th March, the famous Bongs of the UK's News At Ten Bonged for the last time, and the smiling face of Trevor MacDonald bade us farewell till the following Monday, March 8th, when he would get a decent early night at last after fronting the new ITN Evening News at 6h30 pm. I wonder how long his name will be associated with the new news - I can't find it any stronger than its square to Jupiter. When the News At Ten was born in London on July 3rd 1967 (at ten pm if you hadn't guessed...!) it would be many years and several presenters before our Trevor got the job, but his name is already indelibly imprinted on the heavens: because we find "McDonalda" (also useful for bugs in the beef-burgers) neatly conjunct the IC with the Public's Moon and - what else? - "Skytel"... on the Meridian, which also happens to be the name of the South-East's independent broadcasting franchise, which has carried the ITN news to us for a fair number of years now. (It has a lovely jazzy Sun-Moon logo.) Another delight in this chart is the conjunction of "Telemann" (telly man!) with Mercury; its draconic position in compulsively communicative Gemini meets the Sidereal Gemini Sun, underlining the nature of his public role. (For the newcomers to Small World, the Sidereal has far more to do with a person's public life than their private affairs, which are Tropical. Draconic, karmic, spans both.) "Imago" and "United Nations" are both conjunct that Sun; here is the medium and the message - and Trevor McDonald as a uniter of our country's nations, as he is one of the pioneer black broadcasters. Lastly there is a lovely little collection of draconic Cancer asteroids on the Tropical Desc: "MonteVideo" and "Veritas" (truthful video footage!), plus "Ben Mayer", which is the closest I can get to the Bongs of Big Ben, and the closest of these three to the angle! The News at 6h30 has good old "Telemann" setting, and "Jack London" ... for London ... where it should be, at the IC; "Skytel" is aligned to the draconic Sun; but the tropical Sun opposes both "Neufang" (new-fangled!) and more coherently "Newman", also the Saturn-Neptune square and the Dragon's Tail are very busy interdimensionally with the Angles. So I wonder what upsets lie ahead? KOSOVO On the first day of the NATO bombardment we in Britain were treated to the most extraordinary perspective on its inception: the intrepid Kate Adie reported from a NATO vessel off the Balkan coast. As the Aries Sun went down fiery into a kingfisher sea she told us (live) that this sunset was the moment when preparations were set to begin for the launch of missiles against Serbia. Later, nearer 7pm, the missiles arced and blazed into the darkness. But at that utterly beautiful Adriatic sunset, at the serious start of the action, asteroid "Srbija" was right on the Midheaven close to the quarter Moon and nearby "Nemesis". Sidereally (important - this is history) it fell in Gemini opposite helio and Tropical Pluto, and draconic Saturn. Draconically the angular conjunction was hit by tropical and helio Uranus, as on the draconic Taurus Ascendant - carrying opposite with the setting Sun tropical Mars and the closing conjunction of sidereal Chiron and Pluto - rose "Beograd" (Belgrade) and "Britten" (Britain.) How graphic can astrology get? COMING SOON ... Later on, we'll have a look at Slobodan Milosevic - those of you who don't have his data will find this very enlightening, and those who do but haven't looked at this complex man interdimensionally will come to understand him far better. Also, I hope to have an interim report on the new HERSCHEL Interdimensional Astrology program being lovingly compiled by Graham Bates. Already it has much to offer that no other program can, and it is incredibly quick and easy to use. Neither is it a Ram-guzzler! Look forward to Herschel's availability later on this year, with upgrades during succeeding months. Now I must send Small World spinning off to you before too much of April has gone by! God Bless you all, my friends, Pam ............................................................................................................ |
