An Encyclopedia of Rock ...
Not all astrologers are convinced of the relevance or usefulness of the tens of thousands of tiny planetoids orbiting roughly between Mars and Jupiter, but once you have seen how often a significantly named asteroid is descriptively placed in a nativity, either InterDimensionally or in the Dwad, you may be persuaded to take them seriously as cosmic I.D. In my view, direct alignments of conjunction or opposition are the aspects that count, with - ideally - small orbs for such tiny bodies. Sometimes a very precise square or trine shouts to be noticed - so let it speak to you.
What we have out there in the Ecliptic is an exponentially growing thesaurus embracing almost any concept or identity you care to name. (It gives a whole new meaning to the title Encyclopaedia of Rock...!) What it means is that if you wish to establish the identity and principal interests of someone through their chart, a good look at the asteroids hogging the Lights and Angles will confirm or refute your expectations. On occasion the midpoint of a First name and a Surname will hit a sensitive point, identifying the native. You can get lucky and uncover multiple significant alignments involving several variants of a key name. But because there are so many now to work with, it is probably impossible to use them forensically to any great effect except in retrospect - sad, because the idea of crime-busting with loaded asteroids is so seductive!
You will find many articles among these pages that include references to the asteroids, including "The Truth of Astrology." You may find these quite an eye-opener!
Hundreds-and-Thousands
A pause for reflection is required at this juncture to take stock of just how many thousands of asteroids there are in orbit approximately between Mars and Jupiter (many orbits are somewhat eccentric.) Their sizes range from planetoids through large and small rocks to dust-grains. The 21st century computerised astrologer now has access to the positions of more than 18,000 named asteroids; the ecliptic is crowded! How can they possibly be meaningful? Observations so far tell us that they provide some of the most succinct and powerful description in astrology - you may have already seen some of this for yourself, elsewhere. Yet it does not alter the fact that there are plenty of non-significant asteroids both on and close to planets and angles, threatening to make nonsense of our patterns. What is the answer?
A useful analogy is the working of Bach Flower Remedies, with which many of us are now familiar. For every person there will be a single remedy which perfectly suits them, matches their type, fills their needs; there will be a few others that are often just as appropriate; there remain a good number which will be called upon from time to time as adjuncts. Now, it can happen that a prescriber, by mistake, includes in a multiple remedy one or more flower essences that are totally unsuitable for that person or that situation, but they cannot be removed from the blend, and are taken along with the others. But you who have used them will know that these superfluous essences, far from confusing or interfering with the remedial action, simply have no effect - it is as if they were never there. Only the flowers whose spirit is needed at that point, will act at that point. In the same way, amid the crowds of asteroids, only those whose nature matches an event will be active in that event, in the astrological clusters we have seen. The phrases in the never-ending story are not irrelevant gibberish, but formed selectively from the circling lexicon of planets and asteroids. In any context there will always remain ‘words’ that are irrelevant and unchosen, and these will not be part of the phrase. They may, on the other hand, form into other phrases for other concurrent events of which the astrologer is unaware.
